Thanks for all the advice from the prior post.
Bought the Ford today, new tires, motor/engine quiet as a mouse, tranny tight, 3 PH lifted a landscaper box and seeder 400#? Paid 1200 for it. Could not pass it up. I will use it for mowing, the mower IH111 is 5 feet wide, too narrow for the M, could not get close enoughw/o running stuff over. The Ford is a lot narrower, and now I can plow and disc w/ the M.
I can have my son mow w/ the Ford when he gets a few years older. (Hopefully). Since I don't live on it, its difficult to do everything by myself, and this will give us Quality Time. Maybe. Earl

First I will get an overriding clutch, and then I use it. The M taught me that. Thanks again, Earl

I don't know if I posted in time for you to read it last time or not,so I'll repeat it. Just make SURE that you have an overriding clutch on your brushhog. If not, you're in for a big surprise the first time that you push the clutch in and try to stop with it running.

At that price you CANNOT pass it up....even if you don't want it. Around here a running eyesore Ford N will bring $1500. Decent looking tractor will get $2000 to $2500. I buy non-runners for between $500-$600 and have paid as much as $900 and always come out ahead when I sold them or parted them out (I've done both).

Also, compare the cost of that Ford to a new riding lawnmower. Now figure how long that plastic lawnmower will last compared to the Ford. No brainer.

Definatly a good deal (And this coming from a diehard JD person) One word of caution though, invest in an overrunning clutch....especially if you are going to have your son mowing with it.

Some of the best memories I have involve my Daddy and tractors. Congratulations and Good Luck. By the way, I think you made a good choice in the ford!

Buy the "M"; too. You can NEVER have too many tractors!
