If this flies , I'm gonna invent a Crossover Ice Cream "Sammich".. Then if thats a success , How about a Crossover Phillips Screwdriver.. How about some of your ideas ?? Oh , I know.... Crossover SUV has the best features of a minivan and a small SUV. The perfect machine for those who really need a minivan but their ego tells them they must be seen in a SUV. Really a small, tall minivan without the darn sliding barn doors and a bit higher off the ground with a good AWD system avalible.

My wife was having trouble with her knees when getting out of our 02 LeSabre, so we went shopping for something having the same seat height as my old 82 Chev C10. Didn't like Yukon/Tahoe because of the running board, so started shopping crossovers. Found a 06 Cadillac SRX program car on Ebay. Won the bid and we love it; well suited to us tall folks. State Farm calls it a sport wagon. Only downside is gas mileage went from 29 to 20.

Hi, we bought a Saturn Outlook a week ago, which is one of them that's classified as a "crossover". For a people mover, greatest thing since sliced bread. Eight passenger without sitting on top of each other, all wheel drive, V6 with 6-speed auto. Biggest difference is its built as a uni-body, not as a body-on-frame. Makes for a lighter vehicle & better fuel economy.

If I were looking for a work vehicle, I'd have stayed with something more traditional (I have an F350 crew-cab diesel PU to tow with), but for the wife to haul kids & grandkids around its great. Comfortable to drive, enough power, and supposed to get significantly better gas mileage than the Chevy Astro van we had before. Haven't been through a full tank yet, so too soon to speak to the fuel economy part.

I think these classes may also have something to do with fuel economy standards mandated by usa. Small car like suvs may be classed as trucks, therefore raising the mpg average fuel economy of the corp vehicles. therefore the small 4 cylinder engines serving a purpose or whatever.

Theys a heap 'o stuff us old farts don't unnerstand. SUV=sport utility vehicle. I love Suburbans an Excursions, but what's "sporty" about em? What do "cross over SUVs" cross over to? The Blazer was a Blazer an the S-10 Blazer wus smaller then the S-10 Blazer wus a Blazer an the Blazer wus a Tahoe? What genious thought that up?

I better stop fore I REALLY git started.

I think you thought about some of this wrong.
The suburbans were the first sport utilities before the lines got distorted. Since when does sport utility mean sporty. A sport can be hunting, etc.
I agree about the cross over part. We used to call those station wagons.

It's just a station wagon recycled from a couple of decades ago. Can't call them that now. What soccer mom with her bleached blonde hair, sunglasses, and cell phone glued to her ear would be caught dead driving a "Station Wagon"?

A crossover is an SUV wannabe. It's a car chassis with an small SUV body. Like the El Comino was a car that looked like a truck but was a car.

AMC...? in reply to Stumpalump, 04-06-2007 22:13:46
When I was a kid the mail man had an AMC Eagle, I think it was. Sortof like a 4 door hatchback on a 4x4 S-10 frame. Guess AMC was just too far ahead of their time.
