On the Rideau Lakes system in Eastern Ontario the ice is just about ready to go out.

How is it on other lakes?

The Great Bras d'Or opened about 3 weeks ago, but it's still holding ice in some of the coves not exposed to the currents. It was early this year, but it didn't freeze as well as most years, so a bit of warm weather and a good blow is all it takes to clean it.

In the finger lakes of upstate NY the ice is gone from the smaller lakes. The two big ones Cayuga and Seneca have not frozen over in living memory . The ends freeze some. Still cold though. 1-2 feet of snow predicted for tomorrow and monday.

Lake Manitoba is still frozen solid. Not even a little thawed at the edges. Some water sitting on top from runoff. Until that 70 mile by 30 mile ice cube melts, things stay pretty cool here.

Just how is the fishing in your neck of the woods most times. Anyone who doesn't like fresh Manitoba pickerel (at any price) needs something checked. Now please don't tell me you hate fish!!!!

Fishing up here is so so. Too much commercial fishing in the winter. I live 20 miles south of the Lake Manitoba Narrows, and some people catch fish there. I've also heard of people having luck up at Steeprock.

Yes, I love the taste of Pickerel. What good Icelandic Canadian wouldn't? Just don't seem to have the time to go fishing much.
