Just curious, Who makes the most reliable diesels under 50 HP need not be U.S. built, any $ range, no need to start any arguements, would just like everyones opinion. If you feel like expressing it.

I have a New Holland TC40. I think it is a very good tractor. Starts easily in all kinds of weather, has diff. lock for getting out of those places where you should not have gone, and is a great little loader tractor. Mine has the shuttle shift, as I did not like the extra power needed for the hydrostat. I guess I am old fashioned, and wanted a clutch. Anyway, my vote is for New Holland. JohnG

I have two Kubota tractors one 30 hp and one 18 hp they both run great. The L-285 is a 1985 model and so far I have nothing but good to say about that little diesel in it. My biggest complaint is that they are both light tractors and prone to getting stuck. Also spread the rear wheels out these things will tip right over on you. Walt

Same people that make the most reliable engine over 50hp Sisu(Valmet, Valtra) or Perkins. I'd say Kubota or Yanmar for under 30 hp. I've worked on and ran them all. Actually thats not true never worked on a Sisu just ran a few.

I have a 1989 Ford 1520 with loader. Bought new and has never need service. I work it hard too.
All the 20 series Fords from that era are excellent and getting more affordable.

I have run Yanmars and kubotas and the Yanmars are by far the better tractors in my opinion.

I'm a Deere guy , But for longevity my money's on Isuzu..A Kohring 6614 I know of has nearly 20,000 hrs on it without having the pan or the head off..The old Chevy Luv diesel had Isuzu power plants in them and held up real well too..

In that class they're basically all Japanese, except for the Chinese and German Hatz and Deutz. With the exception of the Chinese stuff, I don't think there's much difference between any of them. They're all pretty good.

I think your prob right Rod, But I'm kinda suprised that I havnt heard anyone mention Cat/Cummins/IH or do they even make anything under 50 HP anymore? The water pump and generator guys I know seem to favor the Perkins or for a few dollars more they say The Lister-Petter outlive us all, I wonder if application has anything to do with it? I think the generator engine has the worst life of any diesel, what with being forgotten about for months on end then being jump started to full throttle half the time in freezing weather and loaded down right away, seems like any engine would get tired of that pretty quick.

Under 50 hp? All the reefers around here have Kubota's in them. Might be one or two with an Izuzu.
