I went to get my trusty CA out for some garden work. I haven't used it in two years. It always starts right up, old gas and all, and will idle so slow you can count the fan blades. Well, I'm winding away on the starter for a while and pretty soon its starts and goes about 6,000 rpm. I look it over and figure maybe the governor is stuck inside the engine? I tie the carb in idle position still starts and runs wild. Finally I pull off the carb and the butterfly is gone! Screws are there but no heads. Only thing I can figure is it stuck from a little corrosion and snapped the screws when I worked the throttle. I always run shut off the gas and let it run out when I park it, too. I pulled the manifold and found the butterfly in the head. I'll take my chances with the missing screw heads.
