Wife's cousin changed his M to 12v. Changed coil etc. He changed points reciently but they were pretty bad. Do you have to change the value of the condenser and doesn't the coil have to be hooked up backwards + to the distributor. Tractor misses slightly.

If he still kept the 6 volt coil the points burn up prematurely cuz they are drawing/switching tooooo oo much current plus the coil will get tooooo oo hot. Do as Bob n the others mentioned and add an external voltage dropping (12 to 6) Ballast Resistor (around 1.5 to 1.85 ohms or so) or get a 12 volt coil so the points current is back in line and YES the coil polarity needs to match the battery so its more efficient, if + gnd + to distributor if - gnd - to distributor.

Use a TRUE 12-Volt coil OR a ballast resistor, as required for another choice of coil.

If the tractor is now (-) ground, the (-) terminal of the coil goes to the distributor (points/condensor).

You should set it up just like a car with 12v ground. I'd use a 12v coil and the standard points and condenser.

depends on if you converted it to positive or negative ground. Im assuming if you used an alternator, and you reversed the polarity, i.e., negative ground, then yes you should reverse the coil leads.
