i had a narrow front farmall H given to me.Since it is free and junk I am going to see just how far I can leen it. I can stand on the drawbar and 1st gear the tractor on a reall ysteep slope. This slope has been conquered by all of my WFE so I am going to put the stability of the NFE controversy to rest. Yes I know what I am doing

I had experanced a rollover with my H.I was was digging dirt out of a dry pond with a straight arm loader narrow front tractor.with the loader bucket filled with dirt, half up in the air i backed up over a mound of dirt behind me when the tractor started to lean (there's nothing like the feeling of a tractor thats past the point of return .I managed to jump and roll out of the way. After that i sat on bank and let the hair settle back down on the back of my neck.Allan i got a chuckle out of your reply.

Ask the neighbor. When we were kids,he rolled one down a hill in the yard to start it and turned too short at the bottom after it started. Landed on top of him. Hope you're agile enough not to do the same thing. Be sure to tell your next of kin to let us know if it doesn't work out like you've planned.

Why not do like the four wheelers do to find thier lean limits.
Put a tow strap over the top and downunder and attach it. Then another towstrap on the other side.
Use two tow vehicles one to pull it over and the other one to keep it from actually going over, or you could use one strap tied to a safety vehicle. and pick up one rear wheel with a forklift or another tractor till it starts to go over. You should pretty much be able to ballance it on two wheels.

If I am reading this right about the guy who is going to roll h seems to me like he is a real dumb a$$. I wonder what is wrong with people these days. I did some crazy stuff too but there is point you have to stop. Also if this guy follows through with his plan I don’t think he will be coming back or getting hurt bad. I know two people that rolled a super h and a super m doing dumb things with them lets say the guy that was on the super m is not here any more. Me and my Grandpa found him died under the tractor. Just some advise to the guy if he reads this, you don’t know what you’re doing.

I have had the experience of helping to dig two different neighbors out from under an H and an M Farmall due to rollovers. One went to the side, and the other over backwards. This was a difficult experience for me. By the way, I was not helping the EMT people, it was the coroner who I was helping. Think about it!

MANY YEARS AGO WHEN WORKING IN ENGINEERING DEPt. at Hiniker cab factory we needed to roll a 1466 IHC. with cab. We atached a rope to clutch and a string to kill switch and ran them out back window about 30 ft. We then pointed tractor toward embankment, tied steering wheel, one man on ropes and ran it up side of bank for a side roll-over. As soon as front end started climbing steep bank it twisted tractor enough that rear wheelspun out. Killed tractor with string, repositioned and tried again. Next time when front started climbing the bank turned tactor to drive straight along bank. Killed tractor, repositioned and tried again. Long story short we had a hell of a time to get that thing to roll. We had engineers calculate all the risks before hand and only did it to get roll-over protection certification on cab. There is no way I would intentionally roll tractor if I did'nt have to. To many things go wrong in everyday life without tempting it. Don't do it.

If you're serious, you aren't firing on all cylinders.

Hugh gave you a pretty good critique of your plan in his post below. Others have consistently questioned your wisdom in this endeavor.

You won't learn any more from this than if you set it on fire to see how long it will burn. This plan may gain you a nomination for a Darwin Award.

I guess the bottom line is simply this. If what he is saying is true, guys with this mentality are no real asset to society anyway, and we'll soon have one less to deal with. But I suspect this is just some low life seeing if he/she can get a rise out of old tractor fans. Anybody with a 1/2 ounce of common sense would know what a running H is worth, and would not destroy it by sheer stupidity.

Walter: I'm certain you have no idea what your doing. For starters you would have told us the configuration of your H other than just narrow front. If you lower the center of graviety so it is exactly the same as your other tractors it will cross all the same steep slopes the other tractors do. You didn't even bother to tell us that, which tells me much about your level of intelligence.

A lot of folks, and I suspect you are one of them, believe wheel tread adjustment was designed for nothing more than row spacing. Further that solid and liquid weight were options for nothing more than pulling. Not so, those items were primarilly used to balance tractor and lower tractor center of graviety. When American built row crops were designed we were growing corn in 36" to 42" rows, thus we set the tractor wheel tread from 72" to 84" depending on our row spacing. We then added weight to further lower the center of graviety. Wheel weights worked however liquid weight in the tires was much lower to the ground. All these item together will make your H just as stable as any other tractor.

What we don't need on here is folks telling us the results of a bone headed tractor rollover test, without telling anyone specs of particular tractors. Your not going to have the same control of tractor standing on drawbar as you will in the operator's seat. What you should be testing and telling us is, how long you can drink beer standing up in a canoe, compared with a flat bottom boat. We'd like to know that, try the frist test in 3' of water. This will be exactly as informative as your proposal.
