Had a moment while makin lunch so I thought I'd share some bean drilling pics for ya'll.

My rig!

Lookin back at a 20' GP no-till drill

Something not common in this immediate area-180 nearly contigious acres!

Lookin forward at a decent hill, really makes the old Case snort! I only run at 1600 rpm's and use the torque that larger than stock turbo and 504 cubes put out!

Lookin back at the crest of that hill

One last for good measure

Yes, I like the coulters in front of the drill better than the JD single disk no-till drills. I also like the pivot on the hitch, which tends to keep the drill openers in the coulter slot when driving on a sharp radius (curve). I looked at GP drills, but did buy a JD 520 and coulter cart pretty cheap. I screwed around too long and lost the chance to buy a 20 ft GP like yours at a similar modest price. Still had the problem with out-of-slot seeding on curves, so added a second tool bar and row of coulters to the cart. This tills enough to solve the problem. However drilled beans are going out of favor around here. Split planters were all the rage, but 30 inch beans are staging a modest comeback on the better ground. Splitters and drills are still champion on the poor soils.

Hey, I"ve got 585cu but only a 15ft Great Plains drill! Like your pics!
The Great Plains no-till system works pretty well in my opinion. Hope you don"t have to move the 20footer down the highway.
I do a lot of custom work and spend a lot of time on the road. Many crazy people in this part of Oregon!

Quite a bit different from the way I do beans. Plow with a JD #55 behind a 1948 JD "D", disc a couple of times with a JD "KBA" tandem disc, and plant with a 1921 JD "FB" wood box, wooden wheel, 11 holes drill. Still I get my 4 acres done way too fast. I guess I just can"t quit listening to an old two cylinder work. Beans usually turn out good, but I don"t make much on "em. Someday if I figure out how to send pictures I"ll do it.

Paul, That"s sweet. Up until a few years ago i used to rake hay on a regular basis with a Farmall F-12. I"m with you, can"t get enough of using old Iron. We still use our JD A quite a bit. There"s nothing like it:-)

Hey JoeBob;
Great pictures. What are those small discs running in front of the drill?
Cheers David

The small discs open a slot in the soil for the drill openers to drop seed into. It's basically a tiny bit of tillage right in front of the disc openers on the drill. There are probably press wheels in back that roll on the slot and close it back over the seed. The system eliminates a lot of tillage passes over the field saveing fuel, time and soil.

Whooie!

That's one nice looking outfit!

I don't understand a word of what you are doing, but you sure seem to have a grasp on it.

How do you control the broadleaves now?

Allan

The beans are Round-Up ready ie tolerant of round-up. The field will green up with grass and weeds of all sorts and beans as well, though it will be hard to find the beans. When the field has had a couple of showers and some time to allow any weed seed in the germination zone to emerge they will hit it with round-
up and anything that is not a bean will die and he will have a nice clean field of beans. It is a real slick system.

You mean yau don't need to hoe beans. Wish that stuff was around when Dad was raising his Lime Beans. I walked many a mile with my hoe in hand. Stan

My dad wouldn't let us use hoes. Had to pull 'em out to get the complete root.

Whooie! That's been a few years ago! :>)

you talked about not discing but using your cultimulcher have you ever seen the disc mulchers. I have one need to sell has disc blades first then spring teeth then a hugh roller on the rear. Works ideal in what you do with playing in the dirt all time. Came here from another customer wanting rid of it.Like I said in other response I just notill once and done with it. Its 15ft wide and heavy

thats how I would geuss 95% of the soybean crop is done in our area. He will spray once after things start to emerge and thats it. I do seeding my alfalfa same way realy works slick and you always have spotless fields usually. That why I don't ubderstand why you always plowing and discing to do weeds. Hit them with roundup and you done for the year . different strokes for different folks I guess. Haven't touched plow in YEARS. All i own is drill similiar to his but modified and hay equipment. No Other tillage stuff
