Hello everybody. I just started to rebuild my first tractor. So far the motor is ready to go back together except for a couple of pieces. When do you stop replacing parts and just start using old one? Man they are expensive. I am sure everyone here has ran into this before.

Thanks Darin

HI, The way I look at it is what is the tractor going to be used for? If you are going to put several hundred hours on it thats one thing. If you are going to haul it around on a trailer and park it at a tractor show thats another thing.

I had a guy try to sell me a tractor that he had $11,000 in, he showed me the reciepts. Top dollar for the tractor would be $2500 to $5500.
It needed paint and tires badly.

I guess the bottom line is, do what will make you happy. If you sell it and lose $5000 and you are still happy, go for it.

I figured on my H that the first engine lasted 50 years and I wanted the second to last just as long... ended up with a lot of money in it, but I'm confident it will last most of my lifetime now.

Nothing's cheap anymore...

When it suits you. I inspect all my old parts and use what I can. I even make some of them depending on what they are. I usuall settle for good mechanics as I use my old junk to farm with. I haven't even painted one of mine since 97. They look decent, but could use some spiffing up from where they are in the sun so much the paint has faded on all of them.

When you decide what matters. Producing the enjoyment of driving, or the thrill of having a perfect parade queen. Personally I like the driving. JimN
