I got to pull the flywheel off of a 24t baler to replace a bolt in the gear case that became loose and got bent. Anyone ever removed one before? I figure it weighs about 250# or so, I planning to run a chain through it and use the boom pole and tractor to get it off enough to remove the bolt. I don't have a parts book to see how it's attached, so wish me luck!

Three bolts on the end of the shaft hold the plate that keeps the flywheel on. Also the shearbolt needs to be removed, The last one I done I lifted it off and on by hand as they are only around 175#. Just use a block so you are not lifting it the whole way to and from the ground in one shot.

Now would be an excellent time to replace(if needed) large bushing that flywheel spins on when shear bolt is sheared. Tx Jim

I agree with the other guy. You need a chain host or com-a-long or you will have problems because you can't control the 3 point as easy as you can the other thing we talk about. BTDT and you will find it is very heavy as in 300-400LBS

You might consider using a come-along or something to hook it to the boom pole so you"ll have some control over it. I"d be afraid of using the position lever to get it just right (especially when putting it back on).
