I have a Ford 5000 diesel with fuel in crankcase, the delivery pump on side of injector pump is good. The cam chamber for injector pump is full of diesel fuel. Can anyone advise as to what the most likely problem is?

Robert,
I have a 3010 JD that was getting diesel fuel in the oil pan. It was my injector pump the seals had gone bad. Just had it rebuilt.

Hmmmm. Ok, so it has the Simms pump? The pump cambox is full of fuel? That could be due to a worn out pump, a pump that's not had it's oil changed in a long time, or a bad diaphram in the lift pump which is bolted to the cambox....

The second thing is this... That combox has a vent tube/overflow drain. So if this pump is full, full, full... then mabey that drain is plugged up, and it may have pressurised the cab box, at which point the only remaining exit point for this pressure is past the shaft seal into the crankcase. So, you may have a couple problems.

I would check that the breather/overflow line is clear and not pinched.
Following that I would check the lift pump. It's probably bad if this thing is loosing any amount of fuel.... Anyhow, that's where I'd look.

If your 5000 has the pre starting aid in the intake manifold. There is a fuel line running to it after years af use they will start to leak run down the manifold. Through the open valve down the cylinder walls into the oil pan. Check it if all the rest is good.

The 5000 has two possible injector pumps. One type has motor oil in the injector pump drive housing, the other has diesel. the diesel in the crankcase if very much, would pretty much have to come from the drive seal for the injector pump.

Sure thing, I had forgotten about that. should be here after 5PM.

On the 5000 injector if the output lines are on the rear coming out around a cylinder shaped part it has diesel in the drive portion. If they come out along the top they are supposed to have motor oil in them , and it needs changing when you change the oil.
I recently helped a friend put new seals on his. the shaft seal was ok but it leaked diesel everywhere else.

My old 350 diesel was leaking around the throttle shaft. I used it this way for over a year and it made a awful mess all over the thing. I may cruise over there around 6 or 7 if it isn't raining and see if I can beat the bushes down enough to see that thing. I came by there 2 or 3 days ago on the 666, but didn't see any sign of life, so I kept on going. Turned around at Mikey Snowdens. He is a cousin to me.

Fuel must be getting past the seal on the injector pump or possibly from incomplete combustion. (Bad injectors or pump, maybe). Your cam chamber should be filled to the level of the plug on the side with MOTOR OIL, not diesel fuel, and changed every time you change the crankcase oil. This is important! It will dilute with diesel fuel over time.

Theres only a few way that can happen. 1 is the fuel pump is getting bad and has pin hole in the diaphram, 2 the seal in the injector pump is going bad, 3 the injectors have a problem and one or more are leaking fuel. NO matter which one it is DO NOT run it that way or you can/will lock up the engine. BTDT and its not fun getting one unlocked after that has happen but it can be done BTDT also

Don't know much about the 5000, but you likely need a seal in the injection pump. They tend to leak around the shaft, which puts it right into the crankcase.
