likely 38mph not 18mph hydraulic malfunction??? in reply to suptscottyb, 08-05-2007 10:19:23
In Europe the "truck" of choice is a trailer behind a farm tractor. In Europe road speed for tractors is either 40 or 60kph which figures to 25 or 38mph. Either speed is insignificantly faster than 18mph. The higher speeds adding to the inertia of the heavy trailer behind the tractor. In addition to the tractor's mass, makes for a lot of energy to absorb during sudden stops. The most likely "hydraulic malfunctions" were a loader bucket or main boom seeping downwards over time. And a limited experience operator who likely pulled the loader joystick to "dump" instead of "curl".

It looks to me like the tractor was on the trailer that was being towed by the pickup truck. The hitch in the back of the truck unhooked and dug into the ground and the tractor came forward and off the trailer. Moral of this story is, make sure to tie down your tractor and don't depend on the parking brake.

Ok, does anybody know if that actually happened or if this thing was just photoshopped....? I'm wondering anyway. The arrangment of parts looks kinda funny to me.

What is on the ground behind the tractor? A towed implement that has be unhooked? Or a chunk of loader frame?

Looks like to me, the driver seem going too fast high speed with the loader too low then loader touch ground and went under. that happens

Amazing that the forward momentum of the rig didn't carry it right on over the loader onto its top. That would have been considerably nastier, and Ms. Goodbody probably wouldn't have been standing there afterward, admiring her handiwork.

My final thought on the unfortunate demise of this machine is this. The fella on the cel phone was the operator. Traveling at a decent rate of speed he looked over to see the woman standing there in the field. That's when he dropped his jaw and the bucket...

Looks exactly life what should happen. The bellhousing let go and the front end rolled under. There is a big scoop out of hte road where the loader caught. May want to keep the bucket rolled back when on the road.

Every time I've ever drove with the loader down and it caught the front end lifts and the loader starts heading under. Thats only at creep speeds, with no trailer pushing me.
