Situation - Knocked the valve stem off mowing. Didn't know the rear tires were filled with fluid. Bought the tractor from my Father in Law who didn't know there was fluid in them either.

One Rim is too bad to repair, the other is going to have to be welded around the valve stem as its rusted, need one 14x38 rim for sure. Two new tubes as well.

Farmall 560D used for Mowing, Moving Bales, Tilling, Spraying, dragging my fields after spreading fertilizer. I had the local tire man break them down to get the rims fixed and gave him my fluid out of the tires.

Dilema = I cannot afford new tires, the ones I have would make someone good pulling tires. They are Firestone Field and Road 15.5x38. They are really worn down. I have found some used 16.9x38 but am not real wild about putting a larger tire on the tractor. Someone told me they are several inches taller.

Could any of you offer any advice? Advantages to Disadvantages. The pullers say the 15.5 are better and bigger tires are not better. What was the proper size for a 560D?

Anyway, I just hate to spend money for tubes, service call for removing the tires and reinstalling when I dont plan on having them off for many years to come so that is why I am hesitant to put the old ones I have back on.

I dont want to be doing this in a couple years again and pay all this money again.

Thanks for your advice in advance.....

Robert

Put the 16.9 x 38's on it. I run a set of tehm on my SM and it is teh best thing that I ever did. Pulls better and overall handles better.

If the tires don't have any large splits or gashes in them I'd just put 'em back on and run 'em the way they are. They'll go another 20 years yet unless they get a split.

We just mounted an old iused Good Year on a dual rim last spring after I tore the original tire open. The Goodyear's have been laying around outisde in the sun almost as long as they've been off that same tractor the duals are for. They were taken off sometime in the 80's, so it was more than 20 years ago.

Tread separation and all, the carcass is still good, and they're good enough for duals. It's actually almost impossible to find a good used 18.4-34 around here any more, everything is 38" now. The mount/dismount and a tube was about $150, we dropped it off at their shop.

I use a tiller and need to go slow, I always till in 1st gear and am concerned about the larger tires making me go faster. I actually wish now I could till in the low side of 1st but that tiller pushes the tractor forward on the TA side.

Robert, the taller tires are going to speed you up, probally too fast for your tilling. Tom

I just put on a set of used 16.9 /38 Firestone field and road on my 560 a couple of weeks ago and like them alot better. They do stand 5.2" taller, but stock size is 15.5/38. My brother in laws 560 D had 16.9/38 on it.

I have set of rim mount duals from a 730 Case. They have a double bevel rim, but i would have to measure them to get the width. They are 38 inch.
