I am working on a JD 8430, a u-joint was torn out of it, it was replace. For some reason now the tractor does not shift after it warms up. Any ideas?

Do you mean the hydraulic quad-range planetary doesn't shift, or is there a problem wiith the mechanical part of the transmission?

If it is a problem with the hydraulic "two-speed", change the filters and cut the old ones open to see what's in there.

If the filters are OK, the next things to check would be the clutch pressures and the tranny lube pressures. Good "lube" pressures are good sign that that the tranny pump is working well, and there aren't issues with "leaks to sump" in the Perma-clutch/2-speed apply circuits or high ressure circuits.

The pressure readings and a factory service manual will narrow down where the problem lies.

Also, check the 2-speed shift linkage.

It's NOT too big of a job to pull the planetary 2-speed... you shut the tractor down while in a tight right turn, then remove the top driveshaft, followed by the front shaft/bearing quill, which exposes the 2-speed, allowing it to be unbolted, and removed though the hole the bearing quill was removed from.
