90 F250 idles at 2400 RPM....whats wrong?

I have a 90 F250 with a 351 fuel injected engine in it. The prolem is that it will not idle below 2400 rpm. The throttle cable isn"t hanging up. The butterflys in the air intake are closed but it still revs that high. Went to a tractor pull today and trying to shift and back up is nearly impossible. Any more ideas would be great. Thinking it may be the idle air control motor. Wags

Try the intake gasket where upper meets the lower 99% sure it's sucking air.Common problem on EFI . Steve

IAC would be my guess, but I don't know too much about them. I had a 302 one time that would require periodic adjustment of the IAC. Sometimes it would idle fast; other times it would hunt and stall. Those were the days before they quite had it figured out I think...

it could also be your throttle position sensor. Usually these are tied to the cruise control system, and everything else. I'm also recommending you look over all the egr hoses and stuff to make sure that the lines are not dry rotted and such (i.e., vacuum leak).

If your butterfly is shut, I would STRONGLY look for a vacuum leak.

It might be the IAC. But could also be a big vacuum leak - make shure all your vacuum lines are still hooked up and no leaks on the intake manifold gaskets. I have also seen a faulty TPS cause a fast idle on a Ford. I have been a ford certified master tech since 01 and ASE certified master tech since the Early 90's.
