Might be concidered slander to the person you're talking about if they don't want the truth to be known.

Jerry,

I"m not a lawyer but but I spent 20 years working in the criminal justice system and have had an interest in the law.

My recollection on this is sort of hazy but a few years back I read of an action wherein a person publicized a truth about another person and there was no reason for the publishing other than to injure the person. The court was having a real problem with it.

So, not trying to change the thrust of your thread but maybe broaden it.

Bob

In some cases, even a lie isn't considered slander. There are certain individuals whose behavior is so scandalous that the courts consider them to be "libel-proof". That is, you can't say anything about them that would damage their reputation. For example, O. J. Simpson would have a hard time suing anyone for slander or libel these days.

Wikipedia has a good article on "defamation"

big problem might be proving the truth. Just because "everyone" knows someone is a crook or liar doesn't legally make him one.

Slander means a FALSE STATMENT spread around about an individual; a false rumor; a story.

HOWEVER, anyone could be going against
ethics... for instance, if someone goes around saying the REAL truth about an individual, that could make that someone a BIG MOUTH!

Truth always wins the favor of many, but being a big mouth about certain truths can get you into trouble!

Slander means the spreading of a false statement about someone. So, if something is true, it can"t be slander.
