So to make a long story short,I was out with my boyfriend a few weeks ago, picked him up after work,so i drove myself home.It was sometime after 1:30 am,had to work in the morning,so i decided, may as well go...65,well maybe 70,heck stepped on the gas of my dads 04 chevy, and put her up to 90,95,then 105 and then out of nowhere, red and blue lights!!!Anyways,i am going to loose my license for awhile, says going 105 in a 40 will do that.My dad has a 135 massey with a gas engine.I live only 7 miles from where i work, someone said that if i drive a farm tractor, the police will probbably leave me alone.I was trying to figure out how much it will cost me to go to work and home every day and what kind of milage to expect from the tractor.Thank you for your help,Wendy.

You can't drive a farm tractor on the road in IA after you loose your liscense. My old pal had to ride his bicycle to the farm for a year. They will impound your tractor, he was wise enough to ask before he try'd it.

In Michigan you can drive a tractor after losing your license. Did it myself. My Farmall M got 17mpg @ 17mph. Depending on the gearing seems like a 135 would be close.

Where are you at? It's going to start getting cold up here.

It really depends on your state. In my state, the only things that don't meet the definition of motor vehicle that are powered by an engine are vehicles on rail and self-propelled invalid chairs. Mopeds are a gray area but have a slew of rules all unto their own. Yes, I have seen people driving farm tractors and lawn mowers arrested (ex-cop of 12+ years experience).

You would qualify for a "work permit", though.

Lost my license when i was very young 4 years no ins. and had a wreck didn't matter that it wasn't my fault. So I joined the Navy didn't need one there back then. Was a good move though.

I think 20 to 25 min to go 7 miles, a gallon at most each way. Not sure if leagle or not though. I know in Canada you can't drive anything engine powered, not even a lawn mower on the road if you lose your licence for Drunk driving not sure about speeding. Don't let them bug you about your speeding or what could happen, or women drivers we all know and we all have done them dumb things when we were young. In 1980 or so I bought a 69 Fairlane Cobra fastback, 351w, 4 speed, real quick car. Taught my wife to drive the manual tran car but she caught on too well. She would race at the drop of a hat, a red light, her brother inlaw in one of his Chevys trying to beat the Ford. Think she liked it better then I did. This kind of driving from a woman who wouldn't let me build a dirt track car incase I got killed on the track. figure the logic there a car with a roll cage doing 50 on a track vs a car doing 120mph + on the open road. Got lucky though never did get a ticket with the car and even luckier never got killed. Anyways just check the laws and make sure your legal to drive the tractor. Also drive safe with the way insurance is now you might need to have 3 jobs to pay if caught speeding too often.

There was a guy close to my hometown that lost his license, DWI, and drove a MF135 diesel. Had a 5 gal bucket hung on the fender to haul groceries. Not much they could do. He had a new SMV sign in place.

The difference between you and I is that you got caught! Pay your dues, pay the bills, life goes on. Dont pay attention to the drama below. I have seen as much damage done by a dropped cigarette than speeding. It has been proven that speeders pay more attention to the road than non-speeders. The consequences are indeed much greater, but if you drop you cell phone and cross the center line, 40 or 100, dead is dead. This will end up being one of those colorful stories that your kids will hear about when they are 30 (and old enough to hear such things). The important thing is you did it. You found out it was wrong. I suspect some of the other posters might have selective amnesia.

The tractor is a no-go. A nice mountain bike will do wonders for your cadiovascular (and your figure!).

This will pass in time.

Good Luck

Aaron

Your bicycle is a better choice. The police will leave you alone, you'll get some exercise and you'll save wear and tear on your dad's tractor.

I see nobody answered your question about gas mileage. I'm not familiar with the Massey 135, but let's say it burns 2 gallons per hour at 14 miles per hour; that's 7 miles per gallon. In other words, a gallon of gas each way. So if gas is three bucks a gallon and you're getting six bucks an hour, you're working one hour each day just to pay for your gas.

A diesel 135 is more likely to use a couple gallons of fuel in a week. I'm pretty sure that you have to have a license to drive any motorized vehicle on the road. I think a few years ago a guy driving a grader got stopped and ticketed for no license and had to call someone to drive the grader. Going so much over the speed limit you're really lucky you're not in jail and have a 5 or 10 year ban from driving in addition to a large fine. You're also lucky the vehicle wasn't impounded with another huge fine. I have a friend who was stopped at a light, after a curvy road, get his motorcycle impounded and have to pay about $3000 in fines after making a court appearance. This was at 3 o'clock in the morning with no one else on the road. He didn't dispute he was speeding but did dispute how fast they said he was going. His argument was how could they clock him accurately while going down a windy road? Take your lumps and be happy walking or riding a bike. Tractor tires wear out fast on the road. Dave

You would have been put in jail here. Also you will need to work a lot of overtime time to pay for your assigned risk insurance now.

Hear the one about the blonde whose turn signal was stuck blinking to the right? Yup, she wound up driving around the block until she ran out of gas.

Biggest problem driving my blonde wife had was back when they moved the headlight dimmer switch from the floor to the steering column. Kept getting her dang left leg caught in the steering wheel trying to dim the lights....

Look into a electic bike or those pedal mopeds. Anything else is illegal: moped, mini bike, tractor..... etc. Not to mention I dont know if you deserve to drive even a tractor, Imagine a car of kid on a bike pulling in your path at 100. Were you thinking about that? People die due to stupid recklessness all the time. If you want to go fast go to the 1/4 mile and run in. Use your head please.

Here in Mississippi you can get a permit to drive to and from work only, in a case like this. It would be worth checking in to that, im sure they have some type of program for such.

Good luck

After meeting you a couple of times driving the tractor the cops may figure out what is going on.

Its against the law here to drive a tractor, other than for farming reasons, after losing your license.

Gary

Not a good idea. Much too dangerous. A bicycle is your best bet, it will give you a good workout as well. some jurisdictions allow the under 50cc motor bikes or the ones that you can pedal that have a small motor as well on the road without a license or registration. There are even electric powered bikes on the market now. check with your local motor vehicle branch.

Well, the worst thing about a commute on a tractor, other than being exposed to all kinds of weather, is that that 7 miles will take you quite a while. 45 Minutes would be my off the top estimate. Tractors are fairly fuel efficient on a per hour basis, but you're talking quite a bit of road time. Aslo to consider is that road driving takes a toll on tractor tires, and they're not cheap. Would you consider a 10 speed bike? We got a neighbor here who commutes at least that far on his bike. I don't know if he has a car or license, or if he's just saving $. He works on a dairy farm. After a day like his, I don't know if I'd have the legs to commute, AH, the splendor of youth!

My MF-135 does 22 mph on the road. So a 7 mile trip would be about 20 minutes. I call it my topless red roadster.
