Just read at the Farm & Dairy that in Romania someone set a new record with a Agco Challenger MT875B 570 HP tractor ( suspose to be the worlds largest )using a 14 meter wide disc they did 1,591 acres in 24 hrs.

They compared it to doing the size of a football field every 2 minutes !

Not too shabby. There are a few tractors bigger than that however. If I remember right the biggest tractor in the world is the Big Bud 16v-747. SOmething like 900 horsepower. TV program that featured it and a few other giants said it wasnt even turned up all the way. I remember it took more than two CaseIH or JD 4x4s (around 500 hp each) to do the same amount of work.

We have farms here with more than that in acreage Lot of 1000 acre farms all over the place. Don't see very much no-till here mostly plow disk and harrow then use a drill to plant. What we don't get is lot of high winds and the valley is pretty flat so water stands a lot in one place all winter. then we have the hills where I live and the farms are much smaller but grow mostly grass seed. We only have to replant about every ten years or so depending on the type of grass. I saw a lot of that Sea Foam last year out here very pretty when in bloom. Walt

Soil conservation is more important and farmers are more in tune to soil conservation now than ever. I wouldn't worry about everyone buying a 14 meter disk and going to town.

I wonder what the big equipment like that will do to soil conservation. There was a reason farmers, counties planted windbreaks dividing large feilds into 20=40 acre feilds. Its happening all over, trees are in the way, feilds are too small, they are getting cut down for irrigations, and large equipment. Am I a fool for spending $1000 on seedlings for next spring? I dont think so, there was a reason my granddad and his neighbors did it many years ago. That is a lot of acreage and hour, I do agree.

We rid the old fence rows here BUT we are 100% no-till so no worries about erosion and what not.
