Yesterday, a guy shot up a restaurant, killing a cook with an AK47 here in the Detroit area. Cops broadcast a description of him, his Lexus and his license number. Woke up this AM to find out he tried to rob a gas station at 11:30 last nite and then got chased by the cops through farm country about 30 miles outside of Detroit at midnite: (from the Macomb Daily)

"A man wanted in a fatal shooting at a Lincoln Park Coney Island on Tuesday apparently died when his car crashed into a piece of farm equipment late Tuesday night in Macomb County. With officers in pursuit of a car matching the description of Mydini's vehicle, the car crashed into a working combine tractor. The driver of the farm equipment was not injured."

On a back road at midnite he probably didn't expect to come up on a guy working the fields late and probably headed home (or to his next field). Feel sorry for the farmer whose combine is now out of commission. Saved the State of Michigan a lot of money though, since we don't have to prosecute and house and feed the guy for the rest of his life.

On the 10:00 news last night, they showed a van crashed into a silo. A lady missed a curve on a foggy night and had almost all of the van in the silo. Her worst injury happen when she stepped out of the van and twisted her ankle. A tow truck driver entered the back of the van to attach the tow strap. When they moved the van, the silo came down. That van became a pancake. Two other vechicles had hit the barn and the milk house in the last year.

Why the silo was empty has me puzzled.

just got done watching te 5:00 news and they ran the story on this guy..and showed the in car vidieo of him hitting the combine, which appeared to be a JD 9600 or 9700 sieries combine with duals and no headder. from the looks of the in car camera all of the combines lights and flashers were on, just the jacka$$ couldn't see what was coming at him down the road(how big the object behind the lights was) He hit the right hand side tires and feeder house right below here the ladder platform is.He obivously thought he had nothing to loose after murdering a short order cook and wounding a waitress where his ex-girlfriend worked, and went and attempted to rob 2 gas stations. as for the car being stolen, I do not think it was because they said that the car they were looking for was registered to him. He was an Albainian Immigant. I don't think he should have been allowed to puchase firearms in this country, but that is another disscusion....Shawn

That driver's insurance should pay for that combine repairs if it's repairable. Here in MD you can carry insurance on your policy in case someone without insurance hits and wrecks your vehicle then the state will cover it I guess. Hal

Michigan is a no-fault insurance state. each driver pays for his own damage (or his insurance does!) Idea behind this is that you don't end up in court trying to decide fault, or partial fault over every fender bender. I'm not sure how this'll come out, but probably the farmer won't be able to recover from the guy's insurance. Hope farmer was well insured on his own...

Had a case here recently where a girl loaned her car to unlicensed boyfriend, and he put it up a tree at 120mph. Insurance refused to pay, since she lent it to unlicensed driver. She lost boyfriend, her car which wasn't paid for, and her laundry which was in the back seat. Car and contents burned up. She was left with the clothes she had on her back! Still paying for car.

I don't know how long MD has had that Uninsured Motorist Insurance. Its not that expensive for that coverage and you can get the same limits on that as you normally carry. I have never had to use it. Hal

The story is silent regarding the identity of the owner of the Lexus. If the crook could afford a Lexus, why would he need to do armed robberies? Perhaps the Lexus was stolen.

David Snipes said: (quoted from post at 12:24:18 11/21/07) The family of a criminal should not be allowed to sue anyone when the idiot crook contributes to his own death while comitting a crime.

As long as the farmer was properly equipped. There was a family around here a couple years ago that met a combine on top of a hill in a car, the head was in most of their lane. Ripped everything off the car from the steering wheel up, passengers included. I think they should start giving out tickets for driving with the heads on and taking up the whole road personally.

If the guy was just driving and the criminal was going fast and plowed into the back and all his lights were working on the combine there shouldn't be a problem. If the head was on and the guy clipped it going the other way, keep in mind it could have happened to a innocent person too.

That's why you don't go a hundred miles an hour on a road at midnight.

..Even if it's an innocent person who ran into the combine.

i saw that on the local news also. hate to hear a farmer involved, but sure glad the scum bag died. hopefully someone will pitch in and lend a combine to finish harvest. i just got back from out that way and most of the fields looked picked and some turned over.

jokers,

good point. We've got Geoffrey Feiger here in Detroit so anything is possible. I'll post back if anything further comes out about the farmer's combine.

I agree JML, maybe the state should pay for the lease of a replacement machine for this season? ;)

Ofcourse I hope the owner of the combine had all of his transport lights and smv signage on or the family of that crook will own the guys farm after a civil suit.

Oh I bet the criminals family, who I bet we will hear are all illegal immigrants, will hire Fieger to sue the combine driver, because even though he has the header off I think there is something in the law about being over width after dark. Jenny has the state troopers writing tickets like crazy on farmers after dark.
