Cutting off brake disc

Hello,

Has anyone cut a brake disc off of a tractor? I would like to attempt this pretty soon but read that there should be space behind the cast iron disc so it will cut properly. There is no space where I will be cutting because it has the brake pad and then the solid steel plate. I am using a Port-A-Torch that I bought from Home Depot. It is an Oxy/acetylene gas torch.

Thanks for your time!

Not sure I'm properly visualizing your exact problem, but generally with a torch, you can "skim" the surface of one metallic layer and if you are careful, only burn down to a paint or rust (or especially brake pad) layer by keeping the flame almost parallel to the layer you are cutting.

BUT, cast iron doesn't cut too cleanly with a torch. If you are sure it is cast iron, you'd probably be better off chipping/cracking it out with a hammer and chisel...
