Installation of a restrictor on a loader

I've got a front end loader that is real touchy when boom is lowered with a rd bale. I want to install a restrictor to slow down the lowering of boom but not the raising of boom. Where do I need to put the restrictor,on the up or down hose? It has a joystick controller. Seems as if I've seen a one-way restrictor that works similiar to the function of a diode. Thanks,Tx Jim

Mathias, yes my loader has down pressure and thanks for the website. I think that is what I'm looking for to help to not tear up a pick-up bed. Thanks again,Tx Jim

Below is a link to the website of a local hydraulics shop. I have installed several of these flow restrictors for the company I work for, they work pretty good.

For restricting the lowering motion, the restriction should be placed just before the joystick in the line returning oil from the cylinder.

I am assuming you have down pressure on the loader. If not, the flow restrictor may make lowering it without a load rather slow.

Why not get an adjustable one? Most good ones have free flow in one direction and adjustable flow control in the other, That way you can change it for other materials. It does go into the hose that goes to the base of the cylinder. I have several different sizes and any decent hydraulic house will have them, Cost will vary. More questions? J.

You would want it on the hoses that go to raise the boom. You also NEED to get one that only restricts in one direction. I think I bought one from Northern Hyd. that was like a check valve but still let oil flow freely one way and restricted the other. You could also drill the hole out in the center check if needed. I had to put one in the bucket dump circuit of a loader once so it didn't dump too fast with a load and then run out of oil and have to wait to roll back the bucket.
