I just purchase a '82 Case 2590. I did not realize till I got her to the farm that it only has a 1000 pto shaft. Does anyone know if I am able to get a 540 shaft for it and where? I am going to need that speed for hauling manure and bush hoggin. Also, does anyone else have a problems with the clutch not working if it has sat for long periods of time? Dealer had if for 1.5 years on lot and when I test drove it, the clutch did not work. They fixed it and said it was a bushing or something that was froze up from lack of use. Wondering if anyone else has had that problem.
Thank,
Jason

The adapter does not change the speed, just the size of the shaft and the number of splines... It will still run 1000 rpm at the rated speed.

We use our 2590 sometimes to run our 540 PTO generator, the tractor ends up running just above idle to get the proper 540 rpms to run the generator.

It depends on what you are operating as to whether or not you can run the tractor that slow, and you would have to be very careful not to overspeed the implement.

It wasn't clear what he meant by adapter, but "Hub City" and another company make Gear Boxes that mount on the tractor shaft so you can have 540 on a 1000 tractor or diff.one to make a 540 tractor have 1000 shaft.I think they are rated like 70-80HP. Watch the Generator bit if you have any Hi-Tech electronics as you can't maintain your CYCLES close enough with the tractor running that slow.

The 2590 doesn't have the reversable pto. The largest 90 series case with 540 pto is the 2290.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of that and my Case history books didn't make it clear.

Since the 2590 does not have a 540 PTO, a have researched the net and found that there are adapters that can make it a 540 speed. Never had any experience with those? Do you just put the adapter on and operate at PTO speed?

Tom Stanley may correct me on this, but I suspect that you already have 540 PTO. You need to remove a snap ring and turn the shaft end for end.
