The 4-236 is a very good engine and extremely popular. It was the first Perkins engine designed specifically for a tractor. The MF 175. I think I read somewhere that over 4,000,000 4-236 engines have been made for various applications. Dave

We have an old 180 MF on the farm where I work and I have known of several more of these engines. YES, from what I know they have the reputation for being a good engine. Ours needs some work on it but it is a 1965 model that was bought new and we've never had the head or the pan off of the engine. B. Jones
