Just wanted to know if anyone else has had trouble with this motor . From what I have researched it is poorly designed . The warranty was out by just over 200 miles ( 5 years or 115,000 kms ) and the water pump went out . ( got lucky it did not ruin the engine --- Chrysler / Dodge put it in the timing chain case ) Dealer would not cover the repair . Took it to a local mechanic . 6.5 hours labour $120 for a new pump - mech says should change the timing chain and gears they have a bad reputation of letting go at this milage as well .($600.00 ) its already apart . Long story short my bill was $1450 , the car was worth about $6000.00 My 1st Chrysler product and my last . They are still building this engine and putting it into various models . stay away from this engine . You can research it for your self and read the horror stories . I did, when it was too late.

My sister's boyfriend had an Intrepid. The engine broke at 160K(?). He found out that it was common for that size engine to die at about that number of miles.
I don't know what size engine he had though.

What don"t figger is the 3.0 V6 is one of the best engines ever made,,, Not Chrysler built tho,, mitts&bits made,,, Chrysler uses that engine quite often,,, Bout the only problem i have see is around 100K or so they git tappet noise,,,needs valve seals on the exhaust ,,, But they take a lick"n and keep on tick"n. Why Chrysler made a 2.7 when they have the 3.0"s is beyond me. All the 2.7, 3.3 3.8s that I work on git 5/30 synthetic blend oil and have held up,,, well most all cars and pic"em ups git 5/30 synthetic blend,,, Its rare to have a engine problem unless induced by the driver. Late model engines require service at a religious level,,, 3K on oil changes are 5K when it is driven mostly on 30 to 50 mile one way trips,,, short trips and extended oil changes will kill"em. Bout all one can do is practice a religious oil change interval and use good oil,,, I would not own a 2.7 tho,,, even tho I know of 1 thats been bullet prof

Yep, It has been explained to me very clearly if I EVER buy another Chrysler product of any kind the chief cook is leaving. Sort of liked GM better anyway.

Was on TV this week the most expensive vehicle of them all to buy is the Dodge Ram.

Sorry about your engine... I know exactly what your going through. My wife also had an Intrepid w/ the 2.7. It stopped suddenly in Jan. 05. Still had over a year of "the warranty" left. The liars at Chrysler gave us LOTS of excuses why they wouldn"t cover it w/ the warrenty. We spent over a year trying to resolve it....didn"t. Chrysler has LOTS of lawyers w/ unlimited funds to fight you. The consumer people in gov"t agency"s are just as worthless... lot"s of words, no action. Bottom line, we listed it on ebay as a car with blown engine and sold it for $1400. Cut our loss and WILL NEVER buy another Chrysler product. This engine problem is wide spread... google it and you will read about lots of night mares like what you and I have been through. I wish you well in this bad situation. Tom

There are problems with most vehicles but this engine is a real stinker , there are many websites dedicated to informing people how poorly this engine is designed .

I own a 1999 Intrepid with that 2.7L engine in it and at the present time it is sitting behind the shop building with no motor in it. Nice car except for under the hood. I called around to the junk yards and they have many of these model cars. [all with the same problem] THE ENGINE Wish you luck Jim WJ

It's a chrysler Intrepid. 'nuff said.

Not saying other brands are without fault...just saying that, of the half-dozen or so guys I know who drive or drove Chrsylers swear they'll never own another one. Have you had to change the battery yet?

Most EVERY brand has some DUMB stuff, and if a guy looks hard enough, it's possible to find an example and BUY it!
