Roy: in an earlier post you mentioned putting "the $50+ fuel line and o ring kit on your 6.9L diesel to stop the leaking on top of the engine". Can you elaborate? I may have a similar problem and would like to know where to look for the leak and what "kit" to ask for. My '87 acts like it has a small leak near the rear, but I haven't yet figured out exactly where (can't see back there real well). Thanks, Jim

Thanks to all of you. I think I know what I should be looking for now. Now to just beat the cold weather we're supposed to be getting this weekend (single digits at night is a little cold on the fingers for mechanic work!) Jim

I bought mine from Oreilly's auto parts they had a good quality kit clamps and all much like the one jdemaris posted but the lines went in and out the sides instead of along one side in the pic I think I would have bought that kit if I had found it I like saving $$$$ I did mine about 8 months ago so maybe the price went up since the last one he did. the ones I bought were exactly the same as the ones I took off. make sure you clean the tops of the injectors before you take them off so you don't get ANY dirt or trash in the injectors and put some diesel on the o-rings to lube them so they don't roll. also just take a razor blade and cut the old o-rings and peal them off they are hard and don't come off easily

And.. I've replaced my return lines a few times, but the only actual leak I had was from the fuel filter heater in my '88 7.3. Not sure the 6.9 is the same, but the heater on mine has two O rings in it that go bad.

Good luck

Wayne

My 1985 6.9 and my 1994 7.3 both use hard-platic T-fittings -one on top of each injector. They break pretty easy when removing and reintalling. So, when doing injector work the new kit is nice to have on hand. But - as to the $50?? Most I ever paid was $25

I'm not Roy,but I can tell you two sources of leaks I've had on top of my 6.9. There are little rubber caps at the end of the fuel return line and more important, those plastic caps on top of the injectors where the return lines hook up,there are two o-rings inside each one. Slide the clamps on those little rubber hoses to the center then turn those caps to get the hoses off. You'll have to take the injector lines off. Now they just snap right up off of there. On mine, those o-rings had worn flat. Slid new ones down on there, snapped the caps back on,hooked up the hoses and lines and that was it.
