well, just talked to the owner. He says the motor has about 100 hours or less on the rebuild. The engine was built with a 1950t engine and 1750 sleeves. He gave me the name of the mechanic that did it and he is a very good, very respected deisel mechanic. Price will still be $3500 or less, with the duals, new batteries, and some fluid filter changes since it hasnt been ran in a few years. We gonna leave it sit till it warms up in to the 40's. If its as good as he says, and he is a very trustworthy person, I am gonna buy it, a 1750 will suit my needs just fine and with the price I can keep more cash in the bank.

The part that I find fishy, but I could be wrong on this is why did he use 1750 sleeves in a 1950T block? They are both the 310 CID Waukesha assuming the 1750 is a diesel. Or if it's a gas that makes sense but he would also have to change the crankshaft or use an 1850 gas kit. Or if the 1750 had a lower compression ratio because it wasn't turbo equipped. But that has more to do well all to do with the pistons than the sleeves unless you mean both the sleeve and piston kit.... Wow I made that a lot more complicated than it needed to be.
Back 3 years ago I rebuilt an 1850 Gas. New sleeves, pistons, had the head done, $80 thermostat that is the size of a basketball, $135 Fuel pump, plus paint and a seat. Ended up getting hosed on it, sold it to a guy by Lansing for 2800. Never again.
Not a big fan of the 706 but at least with the farmall the hydraulic controls are better ~ i.e not toggle controls, the steering works marginally better, and they have power brakes. But they shift worse (don't care for any dash shifting IH) and I have never seen a 706D that starts all that well. Either way they are 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Sounds nice! I plan on getting a bigger tractor next year, about that size. I prefer a red one, a 706D would be nice. But I do like the looks of an Ollie too, I think they made a really handsome tractor, and I hear good things about their performance too.

As an Oliver man who's had a 706D,boy,I'm trying to be delicate so I don't start a war here, but I'd sooner have an old Oliver 77 than another 706.Absolutely,hands down going away the WORST tractor ever to darken the door of my tool shed. In less that six months, you'll have a gun in your mouth contemplating pulling the trigger. That's how bad the one was that I had. But,on the bright side...Dave,you're gonna love that 1750. Sounds like a super deal at that price.

So what problems did you have with the 706D? I need a bigger tractor than the M for doing hay (with an independant pto). And hopefully I'll be able to find a decent Haybine for a good price.

Right off the bat,it was the hardest starting diesel I've ever owned. As far as problems that I had with it in the year and a half that I had it,torque amplifier, hydraulic pump,PTO clutch, shift fork, and fuel pump. There was probably more, but somehow over the last 28 years I've managed to block the rest out of my mind. For my money in a tractor that size,an Oliver 1650 or 1750 would do the trick. Don't worry about parts, they are easier to come by now than they were when they were still making those tractors. I had gotten away from them for a while when White was having all their trouble. Tried JD and IH. I've got more Olivers than ever now.
