I have a 2004 JD 790. I put too much oil in and the engine stopped. I drained the oil and need to remove the oil from the pistons. How do I remove the oil from the combustion chamber?

what's the difference between a chevy 327 piston and a chevy 350 piston assuming both are standard bore....and how much do I have to overbore my 250 chevy 6 cylinder block to use one...and which one? what if I decide to use a 230 chevy block? can i flip the exhaust manifold upside down on my Satoh 650G tractor? And...why would I want to?
If I hold the coil wire to my tongue and touch the distributor cap with my finger, will the engine fire...or will I spontaneously burst into flames?
why is there air?

with all due respect, your offer of knowledge seems to fit auto engines better.--to make your offer more respected on this antique tractor site, yougotta be more specific--like ''i can help with case, farmall, ford engines--whatever your tractor engine knowldge--if none, you'r gonna get tested good.& need to move to "free auto advice.com''or auto site. if you are blowin smoke, you can't get past these guys----

Your help is not needed here. These pricks already think they know everything. I used to offer assistance but a few of the know-it-all girls here won't let their fragile little ego's be hurt.

This isn't a forum for help. It's a place for low self-esteem dickheads can get together and high five each other.

Slow down! With no disrespect to Lanse, this post is written and spelled better. It's not right to assume and I don't think Lanse would post a comment like that. If he did I'm sure he'd give us a good reason. I know a lot of people including myself have kind of questioned his methods but I can see how he might have taken it the wrong way. It was not meant to hurt his feelings. We all want him to get his tractor going! Dave

You Sir are very very wrong. This is an excellent forum to get answer to any questions you have and all relies are welcome here. I have learned a lot from the post on this site.

If ENGINE MAN has answer he needs to come clean here. There are many questions presented for him and he has no replies.

By the language you used in your post it would appear the you are an immature child looking to start trouble.

Maybe it is your ego that's been hurt.

I had the same feeling but will reserve my decision for the time being. If it comes up he's been a mechanic for over 50 years and has a practice engine to work on before the one that needs fixing, then I just might be convinced. I suppose you could look in the archives and see if it might be the same person. LoL dave

On which cylinder in a volks air cooled is the timing retarded (by the distributor cam lobe being "offset) to reduce detonation in this, the "hottest" cylinder.

What was the progression from Henri Coanda's engine to the Whittle and the HE s38? Are they essentially the same and do they use the same spark plugs? (Better off with Champion or Auto-lite?) Do they time off of # 1 or off the coil? Is an engine the same as a motor? I know when I go to the parts house, the guy always axes what size is the motor? What do you call that pin that wants to fall out of the front of the engine (motor?) on some of them Dodges with a Cummins in 'em?

Works good to use the coil wire for the timing lite. You can check for wear in the distibutor. If the firing order is 1-3-4-2 then 1 and 4 should give the identical timing mark. Also cylinders 3 and 2 would give the same timing mark. If you have distributor cam wear or bushing wear in the distributor you will see your timing marks moving around.

WRONG! Assuming a 4 cylinder, 4 cycle engine, it would be right 1/2 of the time, and the mark will be illuminated TWICE as bright, making it easier to see. Is this beginning to make sense to you "noobs", NOW??

The other "false" mark will be 180º off, and can be ignored!

so in reality you are better to time off the coil wire,or you can time off any wire as it will be correct or 180 off which is the same on the crank pulley.

you always time off the number 1 cylinder to ensure proper spark at the right time, not the coil. And if its out of time you'll have to move your distributor on way or the other.

When timing a 1943 Allis WC engine you can time with the coil wire with a modern timing light. On most of them the flywheel has two marks 180 degrees apart. When timing with the coil wire you get one timing light flash on each of the two timing marks on the flywheel for each revolution of the flywheel/crankshaft. Very easy to see and bright. If you time on #1 cylinder you only get one flash every other revolution; about 1/4 as visible and 1/4 as easy to see. This applies to all in line, 4 cylinder, 4 stroke, spark ignition engines that have two timing marks 180 degrees apart on the flywheel. This works nice at slow idle speed and to check the mechanical advance function on distributors when RPM is increased to "high idle" and/or "full RPM". Try it, I think that you will like it.

On a GM P-30 chassis you time off cylinder #8 and use the bottom timing pointer. The top one can't be seen.
