This is the last post concerning the neck surgery I had 12 days ago. Last night I went 'over the hump' meaning the 'ol' body got over feeling bad and decided it was ready to meet the world.

Don't need the collar at least for getting around the house, we're down to one pain pill instead of two and I have the feeling I'll be totally weaned by tomorrow.

Thanks for your many reponses to my first post. It brought a tear to my eye to realize how many of you really do care about the human side of tractor collecting. I look forward to being a part of this community for a long time to come. Jim

Oh yes, one last note. My blood pressure is normally in the 117/70 range but right before surgery it was 150/90. I was trying do hide my apprehension around my family, but the 'ol' blood pressure reading let the cat out of the bag.

What exactly did they do to your neck? Did they do a fusion or did they just trim some of the disc away? How bad was the protusion into the spinal cord?

Joe

Sounds like very good news. Patience is a word to the wise. I'm not too wise. I hope you are better.

Glad to hear you are doing so well. Just be real careful until things are fully healed. We can overhaul an engine again if we miss something but we only get one body. Paul

Hi Jim,

Glad to see your doing well but if you don't take the Doc's advise and take it easy unitl you heal, then why did you have it done in the first place???

Just a word of warning. If you doctor say do not do something DON'T do it. I had back surgery years ago and didn't listen and because I didn't I am now disabled and will be for the rest of my life. Take it easy and as I said if your doctor says don't drive or lift do as he says your heath isn't worth doing things you should not do yet and then you try and it will turn around and get you big time I know it did me. So kick back take it easy and let others do the work and you sit there and take it and don't do it your self

Rich, I'm afraid of doing exactly what you are telling me not to do. When the weather warms up and acts a little springy the urge to go out there and go to it might be stronger than my willpower. An inner voice keeps telling me I'm a lazy bum cause I'm just sitting around.

The first offer to help me with my urges came from my neighbor. He offered to tie my hands to a string that's attached to something else to keep me from reaching up there and fiddling with the stitches.Jim

Believe me what you think needs to be done now can wait till you have to go ahead to do it. As I said BTDT and I was on a tractor and bull dozer in less then 2 months after having back surgery and because of it I live with pain 24/7 and can no longer lift more then 35 lbs or should I say thats my life time limit at this time. Sit on your butt and close your eyes if nothing else works. Or call the cops and tell then to hand couf you to a chain etc

Sure is good news Jim, I can relate to that type of injury or condition having been around and helping someone who had a similar problem from a Bilco door coming down on her head from the wind knocking it over. She was probably a lot worse off but faced all of it with courage, while raising a daughter. This can be really de-abilitating and can just downright take over your life with associated pain and discomfort, take 'er easy and don't take any chances or risks, good to hear it's going well.

Jim

Glad to hear thing are coming along nicely.

Now remember what the Doc said about lifting. You may feel like you can go ahead and do some of those things but the work they did in the or still needs time to heal!
