And I just bought my first diesel tractor.
Kept hearing how they are so much more economical on fuel so I mustered up the courage (and $) to get one. Aint that the way life goes?
If diesel prices keep rising I might just have to keep my old gasser.

Here in Germany, diesel was always considerably cheaper than gas. just noticed yesterday that UL, SUL, and diesel all cost about the same (pennies diff.) About $8 a gallon.

You better buy all the fuel oil you need now at that price. I have friends that got some Mon. in Onondaga County, and paid $3.75. I have noticed that road diesel is about $1/gal higher than gas here too.

Did you have an opportunity to dine at Tony"s on the way up? Is the sand point or a dug well looking viable?

Haven't been there yet - we are waiting for Spring. It snowed in northern MI yesterday, and it snowed here this morning. I just got those Michigan fuel prices from my wife's parents that live just below the Mac bridge in Alpena. The gas station on the corner from where they live sells gas, diesel, and off-road diesel right at the pump. I've never seen off-road at a pump in New York.

The difference in fuel prices has been an issue on my mind - because I'm trying to buy a tractor dozer, and backhoe in Michigan and leave them up there. That, so I have them to use whenver I'm there. I plan on buiding a house myself - slowly - as time allows and have a lot of dirt digging and moving to do. Normally, I'd never consider buying a gas tractor but . . . If this price disparity keeps up - you can run a gas tractor - or pickup truck - as cheap as a diesel. I'm still trying to figure if this is going to be permanent, or not. When ULSD was first planned for - the EPA estimated it would add 10 cents to each gallon and lower the BTU engergy content by 1%. Obviously there's something wrong. Diesel is at times $1 higher and BTU content is sometimes 4% lower. I noticed diesel climb above gas after Katrina in Louisiana. That was allegedly due to all the diesel fuel sent there for repair work, running huge water pumps, etc. It caused a "temporary" shortage. So here we are - what the heck has happened? My best mileage diesel truck - a Dodge Cummins ex-cab, 4WD with a camper on the back can get around 18 MPG. Seems if I had a gas truck that got 15 MPG, it would be just as cheap to drive and fuel would be easier to find. So ??? Of course, then my next question is - is there a gas truck that can get better than 15 MPG with a camper on the back? I've heard such stories - but many people stretch the truth a bit when it comes to fuel mileage.

Anyway - back to your point. We are going to try Tony's our next time through. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Hi J.C.

It's $3.87gal at Flying J to night for No2.
Oil lost another $.75/bl today @$102/bl, so maybe it'll start dropping in a couple weeks.

You do realize we get $.08/gal off the pump price here in AZ for auto diesel. AZ taxes auto diesel at a lower rate but law requires them to advertize the commerical cost or $.08gal higher. You have to ask to get the $.08gal off in some fuel stops. Not at Flying J or Loves truck stops in the RV diesel area.

A bunch of our oil is imported. We pay for the oil and the whole other bunch of imported stuff with pictures of dead presidents.

We just lowered our prime lending rate by a whooping 3/4% point to revive the economy. Our foreign trading partners used to invest the money for a good return in treasury bonds, now they don't make enough on the treasuries so they want more pictures of dead presidents for each barrel of oil. Our dollar is worthless abroad, and almost so at home.

Don't believe me, graph the price of oil to the prime interest rate, the value of gold, and the Euro dollar. The dollar is so bad, Vietnam is unhooking their trading currency to the dollar.

The shot heard around the world will be when OPEC wants Euro's or gold bullion in payment for oil.

Question for history buff's, when was the last time there was a recession in an election year?

Our balance of trade is so bad; our record exports have been eclipsed by the high cost of importing oil. We need nuclear power, wind power, hydro, wood pellet, coal, and every other form of power
made a national priority.

GM is planning on selling an electric car in 2010 with a 500 mi range (Popular Mechanics). How are we going to recharge this fleet of transportation?

I just saw diesel today in the Joliet, IL area at $4.39 per gallon at a Road Pilot. Hmm. Consistantly more than premium...and is a biproduct of making gasoline.

By the way, I just heard on radio that area's expecting up to 9" of snow from midnight through tomorrow. That oughta warm things up a bit.

fill my pickup.

Diesel is from $3.99 to $4.25

I'm sure 20 miles down the road in Needles, CA the diesel is $5 or better!
