So we don"t just lie, we "mis-speak".

So it"s not theft, it"s just "mis-appropriation.

So someone doesn"t steal from you, they just mis-appropriate; scuse me, rip you off....whatever that means.

Did I miss something somewhere along the way?

What ever happened to the three R"s: Lieing, cheating, and stealing.

Wonder why I am where I am today? Would not want to be coming up in this piece of >>>>> society we live in today. Don"t honestly know how kids can do it. Gotta be one heck of a burden on parents.....especially when they can go to jail for whailing the .....outta an unruly kid who needs it.

As I see it biggest problem is a lack of individual fortitude, and integrity. I was brought up to follow all rules, Dads,Gods and Mans,in that order. Many fall short and accept no responsibilty.Kind of like the "Honor System" that applies to this website. To my understanding set up to discuss those topics related to "Antique tractors and the like"..I have "skipped" over numerous posts from "spit" to the "space program". Those topics are justified by honorable people, who state if you dont like O/T's Dont read them.If we take this as a general rule, we can apply this same reasoning to all sorts of inconsiderate behavior. If you see kids riding four wheelers through your neighbors fields, dont look and it wont offend you. Seems rational enough,if we all ignore people doing as they will, when they will, it wont affect me.If I have a tractor in a show with the signage PLEASE DONT TOUCH, just look away as the little boys ice cream covered hand modifies my paint, and no harm will come to me.It is simply a lack of personal integrity, most folks want what they want, and will take it when they want it. Even the "old schoolers" who know better, and were raised in the great generation have been schooled by now, and do as they wish when they wish, in "GENERAL TERMS".Every where you go in todays world you will be put upon by those who feel they are not held to the same rules, indifferent to any adversity it might have on a fellow man. They're lives so filled with self absorbed propaganda, expectations of how the rest of the world should make way for them and theyre own set of amended rules.Such as the SUV driving, cell phone talking, soccer parent, whos self indulgent lifestyle is justified in that it sacrifices all, to deliver these soon to be miscreants of society to way to numerous of events. All to avoid a dull moment entering the feeble little minds of its young. To do this it will cut you off in traffic, fail to use turn signals, take your parking space as it cannot wait, speed through school zones etc.WE have allowed it to flourish in our society by picking and choosing rules to follow. There is always going to be a price to be paid for an over indulgent society, a lack of courtesy, empathy, civility, and that general milk of human kindness.Thank God the illness has not devistated the rural Midwest, by my humbled estimation.Off Topic maybe, but who decides whose rules "I" should follow in the anenimity of "this great creator of overindulgent behavior"...Dad, God or Man?

I'd add that it isn't just in today's world that this go on. It's always been that way. We just weren't there then. We're here now and that is why now seems to be the worst. I don't mean to sound like I'm stating fact, just my opinion.

Hey there Texasmark;
When I was 3-5 yrs.old (1936-38) I did something wrong, (don't remember what).Knew I had an a$$-whopping coming, so I hid the old razor strop,
(in the oven). Mom came home and lit the oven up,
Dad smelled the smoke, and said "don't what it was but if you knew I'd use this, I may as well use it. That strop was still "smoking" before and
after my a$$ whopping!!
Bob
God Bless

My mother did most of the raising as dad was always working. She kept a wooden yardstick behind the refrigerator. She would get hold of one arm and around and around we'd go. I tried to run faster to outrun the stick. Ha!

Forget the exact age but was in high school and I did something I shouldn't have. She whipped out the stick as usual but this time I politely took it away from her, broke it into several pieces and handed it back to her. Looked her right in the eyes and said nothing. That was my last lickin.

I thank her for her guidance and love in raising me. It worked.

When my kids were young, and on the (rare) occasions that "discipline" was called for,... I'd give each one of them a demostration of how I could drive a 16D nail through a 2X4 board with a single swing using only my bare hand. I never had to "spank" them after telling them that their butts would be next (if I had to explain things twice).

My grand kids have seen the same demostration on a couple of occasions.

My Father never hit me with a fist or open hand. He had a size 12 shoe that left a pretty good impression in my back side. Didn't take to many of those to get my attention.

Cousin of mine has an adopted kid that came with a set of problems. Not a bad kid, but smart in the wrong ways.

I'll not fill pages with the stories. Latest gig was an excursion in his mom's new Jeep (the one that still had the paper plates on it) while the parents were out for a while. He ended up runnin' on foot after puttin the Jeep on its side in a ditch after a lengthy high-speed chase. Did I mention he doesn't have a license?

Sheriff's deputies asked my cousin whether he wanted the boy released to him or sent to juvie. "Oh no," sez Cuz, "his b*tt's mine tonight."

I didn't see him, but I'm sure the boy bore marks the next morning. Nothin' life threatenin', but somethin' he'll think about before he tries a stunt like that again.

From his years in the foster-care system before comin' to my cousin's home, he knew enough to get Children's Services into the act. Cuz referred them to the sheriff's department.

Children's Services didn't like it much, but that was the end of the story.

Except the sad part -- that this boy won't have learned a thing.

Maybe there's something you can do to improve the lives of kids in your local area or town? Maybe there's a fund one can contribute to, to get new playground equipment for the elementary school- stuff like that? When I was young, the small town parents and adults got together and built a really nice swimming pool. What a good thing to do! Probably kept some kids from (I hate to say it) drowning in the river.

I got spanked a couple of times, but no bruises. I was more afraid of my parents dissapproval than physical violance. I think they did ok. Most kids I see that are screwed up have no father in the home, no one to show them how a man should behave. And if the adults are drunks or druggies, the kids start out further behind.

What's the purpose of discipline/punishment if it doesn't hurt- - and hurt GOOD!- - one way or another.

When the major employer around here closed a few years ago and put 2700 people in the streets, some folks said it would cause folks to start stealing. Maybe it has,I don't know. But I said at the time that I've been poor before and it didn't make a thief out of me. I grew up believing that your name is worth more than anything you can ever steal. I pounded it in to my kids too. Didn't just tell them,I made sure they UNDERSTOOD it.

Daddy would thump us on the side of the head. Sure made your brains rattle. Mom used whatever was handy and it never caused any permanent damage. I never felt abused, but I sure knew how to behave. Now I see kids doing things my Mom would have warmed my behind for and parents don't do anything about it. No wonder there are so many kids getting into trouble with the law.

Have never understood the """whailing the .....outta an unruly kid who needs it."""" I was in the jury pool for the Feb term of Circuit Court. One of the cases involved child abuse. During voir dire, we were asked (by defense attorney) about our thoughts on using a belt/strap on a kid. I asked ..... .....and didn't get an answer..... ...why I would be arrested for using a strap on the judge, fellow juror, defense attorney, a dawg or a mule, but would be applauded for doing the same thing to a defenseless child. I was excused, but the jury that was seated convicted the couple (father and step-mother) of aggravated child abuse. It was a 10-year old girl; in the pictures that were shown, there wasn't a place anywhere on her body as large as my palm that wasn't bruised or burned.

There is a difference between child abuse and making your child behave in public. Child abuse is beating your kid.

So what defines child abuse? If I grab my belt and pop my boys a few good times across the butt, is that child abuse or is that descipline? In my eye, its descipline, in anothers its abuse. If I do the same in public, is it child abuse, if I do it at home is it descipline? Too many lines to be drawn..... ..

But whos to say whats right and whats not? If my son messes up and I pop his butt with a belt and it leaves a slight bruise, or a small welt, am I abusing my child. I dont think so, but some jerk from DSS might see it as abuse. I got my butt wore out many times, and my old man may have missed a time or 2 and got my leg, or my back, but it wasnt child abuse!
