I have a 400 International tractor with a trip-bucket loader and I am interested in finding out which is the best loader to fit my tractor. I have dual hydraulics on it. So if someone has some information to help, I gladly appreciate it. thanks

Given a choice a Farmhand would be the Loader of preference.

The F11 is my favorite loader for that size tractor, Dad had his F11 on an M, 460, 560, 400, and finally a 656 hydro.

I agree, you have an excellent loader tractor if it is equipped with a wide front.

Like someone else said, since you have a live PTO, use a PTO pump and get away from the tractor's hydraulics.

Woods/DuAl 250, Koyker K5(?), Westendorf TA-26, Farmhand F-11 all would make you a good loader.

The key is in the mounts.

What kind of loader do you have? Should not be too hard to add a bucket cylinder. I have done it. Armand

Thanks for your answer on my loader question for the 400 International. How did you go about putting a cylinder on. I buy cylinders at auction? Thanks, Brian

I have a Fordson Dexta, with a Freeman Loader. I bought the tractor and loader seprate 8 years ago. The loader I bought from another farmer, that was upstairs in his barn for over 20 years. The loader was equiped with a trip bucket as well. I revoved all the trip bucket parts. I Put a 14" by 2 1/2 hydraulic cylinder mounted in the middle under the top cross member, and removed the lower cross member. I ran two hydraulic lines the length of the right loader arm. Installed a two spool valve, on the rear of the right loader bracket, with 2 quick couplers for the bucket. One side single acting spool to run the loader, and the other side a dual acting spool to run the bucket. I then ran 2 hydraulis lines from the valve to the back of the tractor. I also put quick couplers on the loader cylinders, to dicconnect the hydraulic lines, so when I remove the loader, I can leave the loader cylinders on the loader. I built 2 hangers out of flat steel, to hang them up where the loader attatches to the loader mounts. Built a quicktatch plate, to change buckets. Have a 5' material bucket, 4' tine bucket for solid manure, and a forklift bucket for skids.
Cheaper to do it this way then to buy a whole diffrent loader. I went and looked at a few used loaders for $700.00 to $1000.00 Fixed mine up this way for under $700.00. Only thing I don't have is down preasure. I don't have any problems digging in the ground with it. Just have to tip your bucket back a foot or two where you want to dig, and rool your bucket back as you drive ahead.
Hope this helps.
Bruce

Don't know if they are the best but many 400 IHC's were fitted with Farmhand F 10 and F 11s with a pto pumb. We have 2 Farmall M with one of each. To say they gave excellent service is an understatement. I can't even imagine how many acres they have hayed, cows they have fed, lightbulbs changed, manure loaded, motors pulled ect.
