I have a manual lift 212 with a 31 tiller that is a bear to lift. I have the rear lift rod but dont have any helper springs. I've seen them on Ebay but for $200 I figured i could build it up myself. My question is, where would be the best place to connect the spring? I would love to convert to electric if possible.

thanks Rodney

Rodney
Have the same tiller on my 112. paid around 30-35 bucks for the kit from Mother Deere. That was approx 20 yrs ago, so probably a bit more now. Comes complete with inst & pics. Helps lift the model 37 snowblower too. Deere recommends to loosen the spring somewhat when using the mower, but i leave it & push the handle to lower the mower.

Willie. thanks for the reply, does the spring attach to the top of the lift bracket and pull towards the rear of the tractor. I guess I'm curious as to where Deere Engineers placed the spring. I assume it was placed to provide the most force to lift the implement. i would like to add an adjustment similar to the PTO drive belt on the front of the tractor.

Do you have the manuals on the tractor and tiller ? the factory likely offered it as an option and may show how to hook it up.

I have a tiller manual but none for the tractor. As you mentioned the JD parts online is great for individual parts but nothing on how they connect together. I was thinking of connecting a spring from the main lift arm bracket to a fixed point on the frame. this would make all impliments easier to lift but not allow the tiller to "float" on the ground. Its weight provides much needed downforce while tilling. Has anybody tried this? thanks in advance.

jdparts.com go to 212 then to go down to lift helper spring and it shows a picture, but not real clear where it hooks. part number AM36006 for the kit have a dealer double check and run it on the locator as it may be NLA
