Let's do a turnaround on another thread that got a lot of response.

Of all the tractors you've owned/driven, which one did you dislike the most?

I'll start by saying an Oliver 70 my dad owned when I was growing up. It wasn't a bad running or handling tractor---if you could ever get the d****d thing started. We used it on a feed grinder, and anytime the temp was below freezing, it was routine to belt it up to a VAC Case to start it.

If you ever killed the engine in the field, you might as well find a shade tree for a half hour. If you tried to start it right away, you just ran the battery down.

We went through the ignition and starting system, plus carburetion, continually and nothing ever improved. Everyone has known a horse that's famous for just plain cussedness. That Oliver was the same.

My dad finally sold the Oliver to a salvage yard and bought a Massey 44. It took a week for me to get the grin off my face.

The IH 1066 back in Nebraska. Loved the fact it would start, regardless of how cold it was, when people with similar age Deeres had a lot more trouble getting them going. But, with hydraulic steering as opposed to pure mechanical steering with power assist, had a tendency to wander. Second gripe was tendency to lock in two gears at once, any IH owner with 06, 56, 66 series tractors knows what I am talking about. Third issue is the TA. Should have Hy-Capacity straight shafted it instead of putting the TA back in. DOUG

On dads farm we had a MM (I don't know what the type was) But it would spit burning drops of oil in the air out the exhaust and they would land on you and it would hurt. A friend of the family borrowed it and we never saw it agaian. Thank God. Mark

I had a 1950 John Deere A. Was so hard to turn the steering wheel all the time. Sold it to a man who was very happy to get it to restore.

IH 240 utility. The roughest riding mowing/raking tractor I have ran as kid. It hurt then, I could only imagine what it would be like now with 100 more pounds bouncing around on it. Running an H was a huge improvement over that little POS.

Farmall M. Count on it getting stuck with that heavy front end or a John Deere A. Like Traditional Farmer says "butt backwards". Come to think of it the Fordson Major, though very efficient, was an awful ride.

I think it was an old Oliver 60 with a right hand foot clutch and the first version of power steering on it. There was a cable that run to each brake that was wound around the steering shaft. As you turned, if it was turned to the right, it would pull the right brake on. If you turned left, it would work just the opposite and pull the left brake on releasing the right side. Getting on to the right hand foot clutch was a real bear after driving everything else with a left hand foot clutch...

I would first off say any hand start tractor. Most once you let one die on you if hot you can not hand crank them till cool again. Then I would have to say any of the old ford front mount distributor models because they where a pain to put points in

Got to be an A C HD-5. It didn't have enough power to pull itself out of it's tracks and the sound of that Jimmy diesel would go right through my head. You could farm all day with that thing and still get nothing done.

Growing up Massey 85. Seat sat too low and hood was too high. Couldn't see around the hood. Felt like I was sitting inside the tractor swallowed up by the hood and fenders. Still have it and will be getting it out again this year. Be sides the visibility it's a darn good tractor, as long as you didn't crowd the pto with too much power.

I vote for a Massey-Harris 44, followed by an F-12, followed by a JD 730 Diesel.

International 460 gas. If the temperature was below 80 with more than 3 clouds in the sky the carburetor would frost up. The thing would start sputtering and missing. Extremely frustrating. Didn't have it very long.

Alice Clobbers D 17 . Believe it or not the last time I saw it I jumped off while it was going North . I got in my truck & left ! That was the last of July in 1978 . In November I saw the 806 I still have on the dealer's lot & told the salesman about the AC & what happened . Said to go find the D 17 & send me a bill for the difference . That salesman farmed that farm before I did , it is his brother in law's , he didn't believe me about the 17 . He called me the next Monday & said he found it in the woods against a tree .

I can honestly say I never met a tractor I didn"t like. I think the one I liked the least was a 49 JD MT only because it was a little difficult to get on.

I almost grew up driving an International W-30. It was hand crank start and had a rusty gas tank that clogged the carburator inlet screen. It had no individual wheel brakes and you needed a half acre to turn around in soft soil.
