1997 2 wd S-10 5 speed w a/c runs fine until you let er sit over night, and when it does start she will run fine all day. The easiest way to start er the next day is to remove snorkle, dump some gas in replace, snorkle, fires right up.--I did have engine light come on a couple times.Just reset it the first time, but was told to change the gas cap,I didnt do it then but did the next time it came on.I had light reset drove it probably 2 mo. came back on,--had it checked, still calling for another gas cap.Am I wrong for not believing that? because it was a new cap!

I had one that the fuel lines (Spider legs)were cracked on. maybe take it and have the injection system cleaned there may be carbon or buildup in the poppits (end of lines) that cause it to loose pressure and make it hard to start.

The next time it runs so good, remove the gas cap when you park for the night (thieves will probably think it's a booby trap and leave it alone), then install it next morning and try. If it runs, drill a little hole in the cap and you shouldn't have the problem again. I had a motorcycle that did that once.

Hope it works, Dave

Fuel pressure.
If no leaks, fuel pump.

GM had ignition switch problems in that era. Some of the contacts in the switch would get "flaky", and not make contact when the switch was first turned to "ON", not powering up some of the accesories and relays, such as the fuel pump relay.

It is POSSIBLE that's your problem.

4 or 6 cyl??

Sounds like the fuel pressure doesn't hold.A borrowed fuel pressure guage capable of reading at least 60 psi will lead you in the right direction. If a 4.3 v-6,fuel pressure needs to hold for a fair amount of time after shut down.Engine won't start with anything 50 psi or under.Running pressure should be 55-60 psi

Do you remember the code pulled?Probably has nothing to do with the hard starting.

I replaced a purge valve on a '99 Blazer the other day that was setting an EVAP leak code.

Yes Brad!! that sounds like what the guy told me.That is why he said to try gas cap.Not to sound dumb but , where is this purge valve? ,And approx.cost?-- Easy to replace? It did run fine as long as the light didn't come on,Last time it did tho, went out about a week later. It left me run good on the first day, but wouldn't start the next.Oh yeah 4.3 Vortec.

Hey Roy,

The purge valve is on the pass side on top of engine.Has a hard plastic line goin' to it.Red electrical connector on it also.Should be a green valve stem type looking cap close to it.

Are you talking about that, like tire valve on the fuel rail.?Wouldn't that leak gas when running,?[with the cap off of course]--- if it were bad?-- I will definatly check it out tomorrow tho. Thanks!!

Nope, the fuel rail Schraeder valve is on the driver's side rear of engine. The one I'm talking about if for EVAP diagnostics. No fuel will come out of it.

It could be the oil pressure sensor. Try straight 30 in it and that might help.
