Well I just ran out and blew my economic stimulus package and a couple hundred to boot! And all I got for it was the spring county tax bill stamped PAID. Tax collector asked what I would do with the money I saved, well I will likely be handing it to her at the end of August along with a couple thousand more to pay the school and occupational taxes. 'Your still money ahead' she stated. Not really I told her. What little is left will support the Peloski $5 a gallon carbon agenda. She said "I'm not going to argue with you". I said who's arguing? You asked!
More people need to pay attention to goverment.(no smiley here)

It should have been called a election package. Where can you pay out extra without collecting extra. Smoke and mirrors may work, but they are going to figure out new taxes, and try to make us feel good about it. I stole money out of the wifes pocket and gave her a cash gift. She sure liked it at first. Her attorney didn't like me that much anyway.

Some folks say to see the sunshine as there are lots of jobs. Few jobs in my area that are offered will require the worker to pay any taxes. The flock of workers here are replacing better paying jobs. The better paying jobs used to force the worker to a higher tax level.

Our school is based on sports and higher wages. Most of us tax payers would be happy to work for the benifit package that is offered to the high guys on the pole within our school.

I have yet to talk to a teacher that thinks no child left behind was a positive thing. I'm not sure if they have problems with the acountability part or the actual learning.

We must have bigger busses now because there was nine buses now we have three. We closed down our elementy building --except the basket ball part. We heat and air condition that year round.

The middle school was built in 1964 and a gravel parking lot worked ok--two years ago it was hard surfaced. Town of 700--cost of $75,000.00 (do the math.) Forgot to mention they are probably going to shut it down in less than three years.

The school owned a two story house valued at $75,000.00 to $80,000.00. It cost approx $20,000.00 to remove it and seed the lot down.

I can't back this but was told that the bus miles are more for schuttling the kids between towns than the rural collection miles each day. Yet they think the kids are the ones in need of a education.

I ain't had much school housin, an I got a chip on my schoulder but the round numbers state that our fire departments budget for five years is what the big dog at our school makesin one. And the second dog in line is just a step down from him.

Our school is run by property taxes and local option school tax. But voting privalages go out to anyone over 18 for school issues. Kinda like the war lovers can paint a barn with your sons blood.

Sure hope I feel better now after my rant an all.

That's what is so stupid about the "stimulus" package. A few bucks is not going to bring us out of this recession (yes we are in one, the govt just won't admit it). Most people will pay taxes, bills or just put it in the tank. The rise in gas in just the last few weeks will eat up more than what the govt is handing out for most people who drive any distance at all or who own more than 1 car.
What burns my butt is the amount of money that the govt throws out to foreign countries in aid. I also support the idea of sending Iraq an invoice every month for our military support over there. We'll take it in oil, thank you very much. :D

Maybe I've lived a sheltered life here deep in the south, but I've got to asked. What is an occupational tax? I can understand the school tax, although I've never paid one. I can even understand a spring, summer, fall, and winter tax, although our local taxes are collected once yearly. But an occupational tax, just what is that? Oh, and my condolences on all those local taxes.

That's the 'head tax' that the school district levies on all adults living with in the school district. This is levied by occupation. ie; housewife $15, upto white coller at $500 or more.
This is collected on top of the assessed value of your property which is taxed in the fall season. This pays for the 3 million dollar PIAA approved sports complex, no child left behind iniative and many other "spending projects" that are routeinly shoved up our ***, but nobody seems to find the guts to raise h**l about.

Our occupational tax has nothing to do with the school district. School taxes are separate. Ours are levied by the cities for whomever works in the city limits. Our city also passed a tourist tax. We normally have a 6% sales tax, but with this, on fast food items, it's almost 10%. I tell people it's a tax on us because we use these resturants all year and the tourists use them one time in passing.

I figured it had to be something stupid like that. Last year our county hired a new school superintendant/administrator. His first official act was to propose a 20 million dollar facilities upgrade/building project. He resigned 6 months later. My son attends the same school I did, my mother did, and my dad did. It's and old building, probably needs some upgrades, but not 20 mil worth. Oh yeah, the "No Child Left Behind Act" you mentioned resulted here in yearly Standard of Learing Tests (SOLs), and even with these old buildings, our school district's SOL scores were among the highest in the state. Needless to say, fancy new buildings didn't have anything to do with our test scores. Oh yeah, our baseball team won the state AAA title. Players practised and played their games on the same field that I and my father did. I say all that to say this, there's no need for the excessive amount of local taxes your paying.
It's all about the demise of the family and the basic morals and values the family unit once provided future generations. Thank God, where I live that is still practiced.
Oh yeah, I'm putting my rebate in a high yield savings account.

Where are the high-yield savings accounts? My banker gives me the top rate on Money Market, it is down to about 3%...

Don't see that anything is saved when a tax is paid,it only means the pain is less.
