I restored a 46 Farmall B. I bought all new electrical parts: battery, amp gauge, wiring harness, starter & generator. I put a new voltage regulator on it and now the battery is being drained. The gen and voltage regulator gets warm when this happens. When I turn the lights on the amp gauge shows a discharge. When I start the tractor it shows a charge, however with the lights are on it shows a max discharge no matter what the tractor engine speed. The light are bright. What is wrong? I wired it according the the farmall B service mannual.

Recheck the wiring cause if it is wired correct it wont discharge sound like either the field is wrong or maybe the gen to the arm.

Is the cutout opening when the generator turning slow/isn"t turning? Which side of the ammeter is the load wire to the ignition switch connected to. Which side of the ammeter is the battery wire connected to.

The "cutout" section of the voltage regulator is defective/stuck closed. (ASSUMING you have it wired correctly.)

Did you remember to polarize the generator before initial startup? If NOT, that may have led to the problem you're having.
