Why is it that sometimes people have to be "politically correct" they can't stand to see someone making an error without making a scene I know I make mistakes, as everyone else does. Even if a misspelled word is understood as it were meant, so what?? I've been out of school since 1963, and if it is too hard to read what I mean,----Simple, just don't answer. Am I correct??

I'm a poor Christian- I always find myself condemning those that HAVE cast the first stone.
"stone the stoners" mentality, I guess!

Sorry if I offended- sometimes I just can't remove myself from a good "discourse"- comes from growing up in a large family of boys and now living with mostly women- arguements at home are my only form of conversation, since the girls will never agree with anydamn thing I say!

Guess I grew up wrong. I always thought you correct someone in public or whatever, so he doesn't get embarassed when he makes that mistake again. I have always appreciated being told when I was wrong, and it always happened in public. But again I was a factory rat part of my life, and they are always ready to correct you and honestly tell when you are in error.

The only reason I was critical of Old was it appeared that he is an anti-Christian bigot. Spelling and grammar really do not matter and I apologize for even bring it up. I was wrong. It was late and I took offense at his post that Christians are dishonest. Some are and some are not.He obviously was mad about something but he should be mad at the person rather than making crude sterotypes about Christians. It would have been just as wrong to make the same statements about blacks, whites or any other group for that matter. In any event I was wrong and apologize this is a great place for information.

Aguanga : You were the person I was after,I was trying to show you that I know everyone including you can, and will, make mistakes, and now that you admit that and apologise I hope we can all be friends here or anywhere for that matter.--I just don't think anyone should criticize a person until they walk in their shoes, and take time to know them. As far as "Old" is concerned Please take a look at all of his posts. I am sure you wouldn't have been so critical.--We are all human!!As far as myself apology accepted!

Its just another representation of 'small man' syndrome. To correct an adult in public is one of the most demeaning things anyone can do, in fact I read one years ago in an adult ed class that it was one of the few things that most adults would never forgive or forget.

The best diesel mechanic I know signs his name with an X, cant read or write a lick. Somehow I dont think the guy that helped me change a trailer tire a few months ago when I was walking with crutches was a much better speller either. Somehow, that doesnt matter much to me.

Just because a man can't read or spell toilet it doesn't mean he doesn't know how to use it.Eough said about this person I have never seen on here before.

At times some people have nothing better to do then to cut a person down because he can't spell as well as the next person. The English language is one of the hardest one to master and spelling is even worse. Like the word there, their and they're. All said the same way but spelled different and all sort of mean something different. But whats the big deal if a person uses or spelled it wrong for what the person is saying. I'm not an English major and never will be and as long as you know what a person is saying how the word it spelled should not matter at least not a forum like this

Doing ok here if it would ever stop raining that is. Seems like we get one dry day for every 3 or 4 wet days and its getting old very fast. One good thing is the hay is growing good but if it doesn't stop raining I may not be able to get it baled which would be bad

Yeah I know what you mean, it's kinda like some of these post that are critical of people who correct someone's spelling or grammar. I kinda find them humorous. For example not too far down the page someone spoke critical of Christians. They used the wrong word. Someone jumped on them and corrected them. They used the wrong word. Someone jumped them and told them in so many words if you are going to correct someone be sure to be right yourself. Then someone like yourself comes along later and slams the people who are slamming the people who make mistakes. Then someone like me comes along and says I am tired of all these OT post that are not in keeping with the spirit for which this board has been set up. Then someone else will come along and say this is a free country and I have the right to speak my mind and nothing is off topic blah blah blah. Have any of you noticed that true tractor related post that have misspelling very seldom if ever get jumped on because of misspelled words? Just my opinion based on my observations, with which you may or may not agree. The moral of the story is up to you to figure out for yourself.

some folks are just a pain in the backside with always having to be correct, some on here write like they speak ,adds personality to their post, some add it to provide mood or entertainment, some like me just cant spell everyword corectly, i made it thru colledge, but heck i work for a living, if i can get my point or question accross who cares if its spelled the right way, " if you go and learn to read and write, how do you know the guy who wrote the readin wrote the writing right"? i like that quote myself, once made by ken curtis, as festus hagen on gunsmoke

I never had trouble with spelling and I'm certainly not the brightest bulb in the box. But I was always taught to go back over my work whatever it was and recheck it, a mis-spelling still slips thru. One company I worked for, if you sent out a memo and it had a mis-spelling in it you were criticised and chastised like crazy, didn't really matter how important the memo. Now I have a boss that is 'spelling challenged'. Life is good! An email or such comes out and there is a mis-spell or mis-grammer, big deal we know what he's trying to say. And in the 30+ years I've been in the working world he's probably the best boss I've ever had.

I have all ways had a problem with spelling, and I get in a hurry But miss spelling doesn't make someone dumb. My second career was at the FL. Space Center where I was an engineer. 18 years later when I left I was the lead for the whole department, I know a lot of engineers and a good percentage of them struggle with there spelling yet are supper engineers. ".....yet are supper engineers....."

Yeah, my wife is a pretty good "supper engineer", too!

Just kidding!. I know what you mean, though. Just because you can't spell, doesn't mean you can't do your job.

Me, I blame it on the computer.....

Without going into my background and experience to justify this response, I have to say this: spelling is one of those "skills" that some people have and some people don't. It has nothing to do with intelligence. It's kind of like athletic ability; some people are better baseball players than others, better tennis players than others, etc., simply because their skills in these areas are naturally better.

I'm a great speller, my wife is a terrible speller but she's an RN with two Bachelors degrees and one Masters degree and is a million times smarter than I am. And I've seen similar situations many times throuhgout my life and career.

My $.02.

Have a good weekend everyone. I'm about to hop on the Super H with the Oliver plow and head to my club's plow day!!

Most people on this sight are dedicated to preserving older machinery. I guess a few are trying to preserve the English language as opposed to converting to Early American Hillbilly. However, a lot of what is seen as spelling errors is in fact typing errors, which is another thing altogether.
