Toro ZMaster Question

I need the advice of ya'll again..
Ive got a toro zmaster (commercial ztr) that has an 18 horse kohler on it (105 hrs). This spring when I was servicing it I was going to check the plug. The plug wire is very hard to grab at the end (if you have ever worked on one of these you will know what i mean) and i ended up yankin the metal part that goes on the plug off the wire. Asked a few friends if I could just re-crimp it on there and they said it would work. Now when I go to "cold start" it is very hard to start. It spudders and spudders and finally will run. Each time I go to mow it seems to get harder and harder to start, but once its running i dont have any problems.

I am wondering if #1- my crimp job is not good enough and i need a new coil/plugwire #2 the gap I set the coil has changed or was wrong to begin with?
#3 it something different.

Would really appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Thanks as always
Tom

Tom,

Myself and friends have built many spark plug wire sets. You should use a new end.

The crimp tool does the best job, but we have repaired many at the track with needle nose pliers or the cheap bullet style crimpers.

The ones in the picture are 11mm wires and have been going for 6 years no problems. Crimp, add a little silicone spray to the boot and your done.

Don,

Put it on ebay. Never seems to be a lack of people wanting to pay too much for something. Ebay is great for selling, but I rarely buy anything.

Tom,
You cannot buy a new "plug wire", it part of the coil assembly.
If you had coil off, the air gap should be .012 on a Kohler Command.
You cannot "recrimp" a plug wire, go buy a new spark plug wire end.

You can recrimp plug wires. Done it many times for the same reason... pulled off the end but the tab stayed on the plug. They used to sell sets that you had to cut and crimp the ends on. So as long as you do it correctly you can recrimp them.
