I took one apart yesterday to change the barrel. It's just a 55 gallon barrel with a box around it and a fan. This one burned holes in the barrel from hot fires after 4 years of use. I can see where the potential exists for a broken barrel to cause a house fire especially if mounted close to the house.
For the money they could use much heavier materials and a real firebox. In the interest of fairness I think they should let people know its a glorified barrel stove kit assembled for you. Barrel stoves work great for a few years then burn up and fall apart. The steel the barrel is made of is not heavy enough to be a firebox. With firebricks, a grate, and keep it cleaned out it might last a bit longer but not much imho. Getting wet will let it rust apart much quicker. I'll take some pictures of the inside of it and post them if I can figure out how.

I have one and I love it. I take my flue pipes down in the early spring and place a bucket over the outlet and caulk it good. That way NO water ever gets into it. I also pour used oil in mine and wipe the entire inside of the barrel down each spring. Sure, they are a glorified barrel stove, but mine sure does a good job of keepin g me warm. So what did it cost you to replace the barrel.....$100.00 maybe? My entire unit cost $1700.00 totally installed. I couldn't find any other outside wood burning stove for less than $10,000. Now, in all fariness I've only had mine for three years. I don't see having to replace the barrel as any big deal.
