Bob M, How dose that work? My C will charge 10 amps at an idle,15-20 at full throttle, and NEVER discharges EXCEPT when the lights are on.(And that's only momentarily, and then it will read 0) And, it dose kick out to 0-5 amps when the battery is charged, and will "kick" the amps from 0-5 up to 10 for a moment, and then back to 0-5 when the battery is charged. I got my voltage regulator from Tractor Supply Co, I wonder if that's the difference? When my C didn't charge when I got it, I took apart the generator, cleaned it, put it back together, and it didn't help, so I bought the new regulator. But in the past, I've had good luck with just cleaning the generator on other machines.
