First if you change a positive ground to a neg. groung without changing wiring on amp metter it willl read backwards. You can set your voltage reg to charge what you want up to the point that your generator will charge by bending the metal tab where one of the springs hook to inside of your volt. reg.. But to get a true reading you have to disconect battery. Only do this on a generator not a alternator .. There are 2 springs ond tabs inside of voltage reg and tabs will bend by hand so what I do is to watch metter at same time as I bend by pushing by hand one of the tabs if it works up or down thats the one to work with .. Engine running battery disconected... 6 volt battery charges at 7.2 volts 12 volt battery charges at 13.2 to 14 volts and 8 volt battery at 9.4 also if you have a mag you have to be careful because at 12 volts sometimes the mag impulse will kick out and you will have less spark than before....
