exhaust help on 706

I have a IH 706 diesel that has had the exhaust reworked so a pipe runs down from manifold a couple of feet then back a couple of feet before going into muffler then back under rear axle. I think they used to do old fords this way . Is this to much pipe (back pressure) or wont it matter? thanks
