I posted topic earlier but I apperantly put it in the wrong place. I've got a real delema, I'm woking on a 300U with a C169 engine. The man at the parts store told me he needed the number off the rear engine seal. When I told him it was a "rope" seal, he said if its not leaking don't touch it. Well it wasn't leaking but the advice was a little late. The gasket on the top half of the retainer is broken in several pieces and has to be replaced. Can I put the retainer back on and seal it with silicone? I cannot drop the oil pan because that is how I'm holding the back half of the engine. Can I get the the bottom half of the retainer off by removing the pan bolts below it? I think I could replace the pan gasket after the tractor is put back together. Any and all help would be greatly appriciated. I feel like a real dummy!! Thanks Ed
