Is the smoke black or blue??? Black is excess unburned fuel from running the carb too rich or a high float level or a choke thats not fully opened or restrictions in the air cleaner or inlet air piping etc. Usually if they throw black smoke the plugs will carbon n gas foul also. Plugs that have an even flat black colored sooty coating is indicative of excess over rich fuel operation. Blue is oil burning from worn or stuck rings or valve guides. Plugs with an uneven shiny black wet looking deposit is more indicative of oil burning If a tractor sets a long time and the rings get stuck/carboned I run Rislone,,,,, plus Auto Tranny Fluid,,,,,,,,,, plus high detergent light weight oil in them and work them hot n long n hard under a heavy load, which may clean n free up the rings.
