Posted by Gunther on September 26, 2009 at 19:50:16 from (74.75.179.73):

I recently bought a Int 1958 460 Utility and upon replacing all the fluids, the hydraulic fluid had water and the hydl/Power steering filter was missing. I bought new fliter from Case IH dlr it had big whole on plate side which they mech showed me a part with a spring and screen that fit in it, so i bought that part and put the filter in, I previously drained and filled the hyd/tran with diesel to clean water out per dealer, then took out pump and cleaned and reinstalled with new gasket (they had two thickness he sold me thin one) So long story short after replacing all fluids incl PTO Planetary type proceded to start, At normal rev seemed ok at higher rev a whining noise, couldn't tell if pump or fact it had a filter in it. Noticed the filter wants to fall out as you install it but held it in with screw driver and pressed plate on, After an hour of working the tractor bush hogging, the right brake froze and smoked, noticed the tranny area was hot and a little fluid coming out of the fill plug ( i shut it down and theoried the hyd fluid was over heating and somehow heat transfer to break. After 2 hour cool down I bush hogged back to the bar ok and it didn't feel hot. Is hydraulic remaining engauged (hi pressure som how over heating) or what else is whining, didn't notice it when i bought it. (Also side note the PTO slips a bit, guessing the Bands need replacing, whorks a bit better if you pull up hard on pto enguage lever, but thick grass disengiages it until u stop for a second Thanks (sorry for long descript.

Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
