John - I think I must have put the extra fluid in it. I remember years ago putting more in the tranny - can't remember now why I thought more oil needed to be added. What came out was all fluid, no water or fuel, and a really ugly brown.
It seems to run fine with the 5 gallons in it. Took it for a spin up the hill and it seemed OK.
From what Owen says about the front mounted pump, I clearly do not have one of those. No way I have that much plumbing around the seat. so 5 gallons should be the correct capacity.
Wonder where all that fluid has been hanging out the past 20 years?
