A footnote to the M/Super M discussion. I agree the Super M was a new model which replaced the M and had many changes, the obvious one being disc brakes. I have my grandfather's M, in Super M decals. He had it overhauled by a dealer in Mo. in the late 50's. Of course they put in the Super M pistons and sleeves. They asked him, since it now had Super M guts, did he want the Super M decals on it? He said yes. It is still an M, and people who know Farmalls think I am trying to pull a fast one, but when I repaint it, I expect I will put the Super M decals back on it to retain the history. I can tell it has more power than my M's, especially pulling implements up hills in road gear. There is one hill the "Super" will pull in 5th that my strongest M won't when pulling my baler. So the "ripoff" may be innocent. It would have been had my relatives sold my grandpa's tractor. On the other hand, are Super M's worth more than M's? Not to me, and I have eleven M's, including 3 diesels and 2 real super's. I farm exclusively with Farmall's, C's, H's, and M's and work my tractors hard. That is what they were made for!
