Glad to hear you're doing better, Walt.

I was in the horsepistol Tuesday and Wednesday last week- had a very slight stroke (right arm tingly, couldn't control right leg well enough to walk very well). Went to ER Monday night, admitted to hospital, and was completely recovered by the next morning. But it took all day to do all the tests. Got out Wednesday afternoon, back to work (desk jockey) and feeling fine Thursday.

Was pleasantly surprised at the level of care at the local hospital, though- good food, everyone seemed competent, ER crew was @$$ holes and elbows when I came in (Stroke and heart patients go to the head of the line, I guess- talking to a friend later, he walked into the ER by himself and complained of chest pains- lady punched about 3 buttons, and a gurney and about 7 folks seemed to materialize out of thin air). Got examined by a neurologist 100 miles away by computer screen.

I had a "self-lumping" mattress- series of air pockets, changed the air distribution every once in awhile so you don't get bed sores. Most uncomfortable dam thing I've ever seen- you just get yourself situated in the hills and valleys, and in 30 seconds, the air pump comes on and moves the lumps around. They did get me a different bed the second night.

Had sucessfully avoided all meds until now (age 64), as had been my goal. Blood pressure was barely on the OK side of marginal and overall cholesterol was OK (but "bad" was too high), but they still put me on Plavix, Lipitor and a blood pressure pill (hydrochlorosomething-or-other. Was expecting side effects, but I actually feel better than I did before.

A "wake-up call", I guess. "Old is not as good as young, but its better than dead", as my grandma used to say.

Today's Featured Article - The 8N and the Fox - by Zane Sherman. Dec. 13 1998, Renfroe, Alabama. Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
