The Petro at Angola, Indiana (I69 a mile north of the turnpike) always had good food. Til TA bought out Petro, then they must have been forced to use the same suppliers as everyone else.

Crazy D"s was a bit of a craphole, but they had good (and affordable) food. Now all pilots.

Was an independent on route 30 in Columbia City, IN, on the south side. There was a self-serve car wash that you could pull the tractor into to wash the hood and windows off, too. Did that often in winter when Schneider shut the truck wash down on us.

Used to be a Roadrunner on the east side of Albany, Goeorgia that had a decent diner. Now a pilot.

There was a small one on the west side of Vidalia, Georgia, that also had a pawn shop and gun shop in it. Nothing special otherwise, but no place else to stop anywhere nearby.

I-79, PA, exit 1, not the greatest food, but nice people.

North of McCook, at the old salebarn, was Vicki"s cafe, not a truck stop but plenty of parking, excellent breakfast, lunch and supper needed some pepper. But also good people.

The staff is what makes or breaks a place. The food can be horrible but if your people treat people right, they"ll come back. If your staff are buttwipes, people won"t come back, no matter the food.

Used to be a little strip club near Dunn, NC, that the girls would come out and make sure you woke up if you had to leave while they were still working.

Can"t really say as I can name a single favorite. If I did it would be the Turkey Ranch at Steam Valley, PA. On top of the big hill north of Williamsport along US15 (now I99 I think).

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
