Dunno - I still think they could rot for that price! If it's so much hassle, then pick them and sell them yourself (no more PYO). There are probably 25 commercial orchards within 35 miles of us. The highest I've ever seen apples was last year - $17 a bu. Pick your own was $14. Around here they also don't let you drive to the trees and no climbing. There is also someone from the orchard wondering around to keep an eye on things. It's also "ground pick only", you can use a long arm picker, but you better be on the ground. Can't imagine paying $70 for apples, though. The orchards around here also make cider, wine, applesauce and applebutter, so the ones that end up on the ground don't bother them at all. Your situation may vary.
